3D printed SatNav "Bezel/Shroud" for conversion project?
Hi,
Before I set about making one, has anyone made a 3D printed should "adapter" for converting the standard hole to accept a 7in CartPlay jobber?
As you may know, on a SatNav car if you pull of the centre dash facia, there is a "big hole" in that part. The SatNav remains in place and can be removed easily enough. Attached to the Sat Nav is a clipped on "should" that also houses the buttons and an electronics board.
What Im after is a version of that should that fits to the centre facia as per the original but is then "flat" on the back so I can fix my chepo (but rather nice) SatNav to that?
In the time before 3D Printing, id just buy should off a knackered sat nav and cut it down, or even a cubby of a lower spec D3. Still might but I have a printer so will go that route unless I fail. (PS I dont really want to cut the original sat nav should up "just in case".)
Any exisitign models would be a great head start.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

It fits pretty well, all the original sat nav fittings are removed. This fits into the center dash cover. I hot-glued mine in place for the trials and im gald I did as the actual unit turned out to be a duffer in use so it all got removed without damage. Its a shame as it was great when it worked and the fitting was pretty good too. Still its a learning.
Note the posted design is simplified from the one in the slicer picture as it was easier to fit up.
Once I have a new unit and worked out some kinks ill post about the overall build, but here's the bezel anyway. next to the original.

Nice work
If you want to get to a more OEM look on the plastic try vapour smoothing the surface to loose the build linesMust stop buying shiny toys....

I just started a test print using PLA, let you know in 6hrs how it goes .
My laptop decided to install updates when the print was at about 95%, no matter was enough to get an idea on how it would fit.
Needs some adjustment to fit a non sat nav vehicle but otherwise looks good and factory.

I tweak this to make it a bit thinner and wider aperture for the Capuride 2.5HD unit which is the one I have.
I also uploaded an adapter I made so that I can fit a USB socket into one of the holes for the power sockets. The Cable goes the unit enclosed in the dash and you can plug a USB phone cable into the female end.
Ill try to grab some photos and do a proper post of this once I know its working well.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2
