Wheel arch crud - loads of it!

Whilst investigating a blocked sunroof drain I had to remove the front mud flaps and wheel arch liners (partly). I couldn't believe how much cr Censored p was sitting in each side - a perfect moisture trap to rot out in a few years time. Mine is a January 05 with 75000 miles (and occasional off road use), so if you have a similar age vehicle and intend to keep it for a few years, it maybe worth checking this area on yours too. It's easy to get at the area affected - just remove the mud flaps if fitted (3 screws), and a few of the wheel arch clips (a trim clip removal tool is very useful here). Once enough trim clips are off the plastic wheel arch pulls away from the body work easily as it's held on by small 'pop' fasteners. Then you should be able to see in there. I used a jet wash to blast it clean, and now there's much less chance of getting a rust problem in that area in a few years time Very Happy

No idea where all these leaves came from - hardly any trees round here! :

This is just from the drivers side - the other side was worse! :
