| Electronics experts, phone integration question |
|
I have a new steering wheel on my HSE, it has the red and green phone activation buttons (apparently its the only version available now).
They do nothing as my car is very early and pre-dates the factory BT phone integration.
If I were to fit an after market BT kit (Parrot for example), would it be possible to connect these switches to make and end a call?
They are only switches after all, its just a question of whether the wiring exists, and could it be somehow integrated with a Parrot kit. Silver TDV6 HSE

Hi Gareth,
Yes they're just switches but all of the audio/phone buttons on the steering wheel work via CANbus so you'd have no way of tapping into them to control the Parrot.
Another option would be to configure the Parrot to listen constantly for voice commands for 'pick-up' and 'hang-up'..... 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I've not seen a D3 with the phone buttons in the wheel. Any chance you could post a picture please? Also, do you happen to know if they're removeable or actually part of the wheel (Though I guess seeing a pic may answer this for me!)

Are you sure about that Paul? All the info I've seen (factory wiring diagram, workshop manuals) suggests otherwise DISCO3 Goodies in the Shop: Stickers, Polo Shirts, Fleeces and More! | D3 Parts For Sale

Deja vu or what

You've already pointed out my mistake once...you don't have to rub it in
(I'm guessing you didn't spot that the post in this thread was made a week ago before you told us it was resistive.)
In my defence, GTR wiring diagram 211-04 (Steering Column) shows them as isolated buttons and a 2-wire connection. For this reason I assumed they were CANbus connections. However, if you look at 415-00 (Information and Entertainment Systems) then it clearly shows the buttons inter-connected via an 8 resistor network.
Now stop picking on me and get some work done 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

On this photo you can see the red and green photos on the right hand side of the wheel, and also the voice activation button on the left side.

Nick, I suppose the only difference on the wheel for phone buttons is the cut outs in the rear platic cover? I thought new wheels were about £150?
edit - BTW, I've got a Parrot Multicomm on the way so will be able to report back next week if it works with the OEM steering wheel buttons. D3 TDV6 S 2005 - TorqTune, Privacy Glass, Remote FBH, 19" HSE Alloys, Boot liner, retrofit F&R PDC

The last time i looked they had gone silly price...as i said before i kicked myself for not getting any in at that price an "S" spec upgrade at less than £80 for a leather steering wheel without the switches was a no brainer... You want it for how much !!!!!

Nick, maybe because mine has the voice control (HSE) it has to have the buttons?
I am not complaining, more toys to play with Now to make them work with the parrot, will await your experience RB, as I'm off on me hols soon so won't be trying it until August. Silver TDV6 HSE

That's perfect, thanks. Interested if you get any luck making the buttons talk to a BT car kit, as that's exactly what I was after doing (Assuming I can buy them seperately and fit them to my wheel)!
Oh, one other question. Just out of interest, what's the button on the dash/console surround between the tacho and the RH centre air vent? Intrigued, as I don't have it on mine. - Jeff K -

You'll have to buy a new audio control switch module to get the green and red phone switches, but I'm sure Nick will do you a good price
The button next to the air vents is to activate Warp Drive - 195mph @ 200 mpg. I thought it was standard
Or maybe it's the driving lamp switch, I forget now D3 TDV6 S 2005 - TorqTune, Privacy Glass, Remote FBH, 19" HSE Alloys, Boot liner, retrofit F&R PDC

Yep, have an email into him already re the phone stuff.
Now see I'll have to do another one for the switch. Can't have extra buttons available that I don't have....though looking at mine, I don't see anything going there as being an easy fit.
As for 195MPH on UK roads...now you really are having a laugh - I'm not sure whether the Gatso's or traffic jams would get you first. Still, better than the 110kph limit here.
Thanks for the info. - Jeff K -

eh
Didn't they used to be about 30 quid each (audio and cruise)? Have all prices been changed recently
£15 is excellent value including the phone buttons, seems too good to be true.
I'll report back on the Parrot Multicomm trial as soon as it's done D3 TDV6 S 2005 - TorqTune, Privacy Glass, Remote FBH, 19" HSE Alloys, Boot liner, retrofit F&R PDC
