5W ultrabright LED sidelight replacements-ideal with Xenons?

If you have xenons and would like to fit sidelights that are extremely bright and emit a similar xenon effect you might want to try this site:

(Link removed due to poor service)

I bought units off him in the past for my Disco2 and its good quality stuff at a reasonable price.

What I don't know is if there are any blown light indicators on the Disco3 - sometimes LEDs suck so little power that the system might think the lamp has blown - any info on this anyone?

Take a bulb out should be the easiest way to check. Even if they mention them in the manual that's no guarantee they didn't join the other missing items that didn't make it to production models The End

There is no bulb failure system, My brake lamp went out the other week and it was not until a freindly plod told me at the traffic lights that I knew.

Think it's one of the 'features' that got left behind, seem to remember someone (possibly Gareth?) mentioning that they had been told - not by the Disco 3 - that they had a brake light out...
Beware if you have the adaptive Xenons though, there's a warning on the site that they need to be 75mm away from Halogen lamps Sad

I couldn't get a stock model with adaptives - told me I'd have to wait - anyway it's fine if the lights can see around corners - unfotunately God did not give my eyes the benefit of such a fine feature.

Interesting - I assume those the size that fits the D3, then? They look a little wider than the stock bulb, but then I haven't pulled one out of the unit to make a detailed comparison. Even if I did, I doubt I'd id it as a 501, anyhow... 8)

The sidelights are standard 501 units as far as I know - as 10 stated though the LED's can't be used with adaptive lights 'coz the adaptive light unit is too close to the sidelight housing.

Ordered some of these just before christmas and they were delivered nice and promptly. Looked in the manual and found out that I had to remove the front grill and light units to actually replace the bulbs!

Got around to it today and pleasantly pleased with the results, they fit okay and I think they give a better look alongside the bi-xenons.

As per the comments above, changing the bulbs is easier than first appears on reading the manual. The clips on the front grille feel reasuringly robust enough to make me believe they won't start to break until the plastic is much older and more brittle.

The metal locking bars are difficult to lift and allow the light units to come out, however if you take your time, find something suitable to hook underneath the top portion and either pull directly up to disengage or lever it up after making sure the part you levering against is a) suitably protected and b) strong enough to stand be levered against.

Just make sure you put the front grille somewhere safe and DON'T DROP THE HEADLIGHTS!

Also very much a Non-Expert

I have put a couple of phots on my gallery, one showing the bi-xenon and side light on to show the colour comparisen (the strength of the xenon does naturally make the side light seem very dim)

the second just shows the side light with the LED, a pleasant blue/white light.
