JMC i agree about some stations wont allow cars to fill up on HGV pumps. This is mainly due to certian fuel cards. they have an agreement with the stations not to hold up HGV and sole use for HGV. Time is money for us truckers......the last thing I would need when sticking to tacho is some  in a D3 faffing about doint his sweetie order when I should be at my destination 10 mins ago PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

No such agreement exists. 
It is simply a safety thing in that the fuel shut-off system is not designed for the filler neck in normal cars. The flow rate in an HGV pump is high enough that 'normal cars' will be much more likely to suffer an overfill and hence create problems for the customer/retailer. There's no law about cars using the HGV pump, but responsible stations should not allow cars to use the pumps. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

yep, but it can be a little bigger, it will still fit. you can tell if its HGV as the pipes are bigger n heavier, usually smell of urine as the driver utilises his fuel stop with a comfort break, but everybody be very careful....9 times out of 10 next to a HGV diesel pump will be a RED DIESEL PUMP for the HGV's with donkey engines, use this, get caught and find your D3 in a Customs Auction PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

I've never heard of a UK filling station with a red-diesel pump on the forecourt. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Beg to differ there JMC, most stations leave their pumps free for HGV..........I will bring home me map booklet for stobart telling us the locations where we can use the card and what benefits we have,  all adds to driver wages like loyalty cards, stamps etc. Dial Card state they guarantee your pumps at their stations will remain car free., I know its tosh, but it is stated.
Also garages are reluctant to let a car use a HGV pump for, lets say 40 litres, and hold up a truck like mine waiting to fill 1200 litres. PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

As they should - for the safety reasons stated above. Nothing to do with Dial Card (or any other card) who have nothing to do with the running of the sites (save reducing their profitability)

My view on HGV fuel pumps is to leave them for the HGV's!!
However on a weekend [with less HGV's on the road] whilst towing tintent, I would use the HGV pumps only if
the 'car' fuel court was too busy or too tight to manouvre a D3/tintent outfit.
When using the HGV pumps, I've found that I've had to leave my credit card at the forecourt desk before fuelling is allowed [poss with the potential volume of diesel that a HGV can be driven off with], also as mentioned in my earlier thread the diesel can be 2p cheaper than on the 'car' forecourt. slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

Most times you do have to leave a card b4 the fuel delivery will be allowed at HGV pumps, this is'nt mainy to stop drive offs, only marginly. Its really for stolen fuel cards, forgotton pin numbers and also card issuers change stations frequently and what would be a certain card one month, the next month it may not be valid.
Its a great idea that tintents use HGV pumps, especially at weekends they are little used and supply more room for manouvre. PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

agree, as it also free's up not just one but potentially 2 or 3 other 'car' pumps due to the outfit length. slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

Got to be honest, cos as a truck driver I usually go into a Zombie type status when refuelling 1200 ltrs, so never noticed the price per litre. Never noticed cos I am usually doing paperwork or boiling the kettle , and also I dont pay it myself, but I certainly will be looking for price difference from now on PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER

Not saying a price diff is normal.
I only noticed it last time I filled up the D3/tintent combo at an HGV pump.
That was at the Cairn Lodge services on the M74.
Away with tintent tomorrow, so will be keeping an eye out. slowly re-building my gallery after the wipe out !!!!

I've only seen it once about 15 years ago. A filling station down by the docks at Widnes. Pretty dodgy area at that time Renny Thomson

Theres three stations, admittedly they are aimed at the HGV use, just off the M1 at Crick mate. White Diesel, and a poorly labeled Red diesel. Dont ask how I know  PERMANENTLY IN THE SITE NAUGHTY CORNER
