Locking Rear Diff - Software Upgrade

I was sitting at the traffic lights this evening when suddenly the dash lit up and a couple of messages appeared

1) SUSPENSION LOWERING then
2) TRANSMISSION FAULT STOP SAFELY

the car still moved but the suspension had indeed lowered. Outside Temp was 3-degrees

I took the following picture, switched off, immedeatly restarted (cos the lights changed to Green) and everything seemed OK. Suspension was locked in Access Mode so I raised suspension, carried on.

Any ideas as to what happended and why ? I was just wondering whether all the extra Aux wiring (from Aux Battery) that has been poked here there and everywhere might have caused a problem somewhere

Thanks
 Duncan

Can't see it being battery if the engine was running, possibly a missing message from the ABS broadcast on High speed CANbus, only a DTC read will confirm... Due to the way CANbus works, extraneous induced signals (such as current draw from the aux. battery - which BTW is in parallel with the main battery when the alternator is charging) will not cause a 'ghost' fault

Thanks.

Battery has been tested recently and reported OK. I ve had a coup,e of instances when the suspension warning light came recently but that was cancelled with a restart.

TFC, what could cause a missing message ?.

I wasnt doing anything excessive or fiddling with the controls, just pottering about in traffic.

The exact same thing happened to me about a month ago; I did the same "technical" process of turning it off and on again and its been a-ok ever since

Thumbs Up to MJ Fews..

I emailed Neil in the service department last night.., 0915 this morning i received a voice mail to call in and he would take a look.

Got there about 11:00 and it would appear to be a intermittant fault on the Rear Locking Diff Actuator. It was also showing ABS, suspension and a number of other faults all which linked back to no signal being received from the actuator.

I just need to sort out a date to get it booked in and they will replace the actuator Thumbs Up

Update from dealer :

Its not the actuator, its the Rear Locking Diff software.

Apparently the boffins at LR are aware of the problem. Its somehting to do with the calibration of the diff. each time the diff locks the calibration goes funny and cant be reset without a software upgrade.

the software has been written and is currently being tested. It should be relaeased in the next couple of weeks. as soon as I get it done I'll post the TSB (assuming LR issue one)

I suggest everyone with a Locking Rear Diff gets this upgrade as I am assuming its a problem with all vehicles given LR have only just written the software upgrade..

So your rear diff has never locked before? Or the last upgrade they did has caused the problem?
