Just ordered the blanking kit from BAS. Can't wait to install it! I surfed ebay for similar products, and although all are cheaper, this website never mentioned any other kits except BAS, so i went for that one.

The engine sounds really rough at times, power is down, and the mpg's are in the 19's. Hope this cures the problem.
Will post pics as soon as i get my hands on the parcel.

EGR Blanking

Why not just use 2p's permanently and not buy a blanking kit? Apart from the 2 metal plates what do you need. I have a D3 on a 56 plate and am considering blanking off the EGRs. Why does the car not go into a basic engine map mode? Why not as another user of the forum suggested just make the EGR valve permanently shut? Is it just the hassle of getting them out?

Why not use 2ps permanently? Because they're unlikely to last forever, and I wouldn't like to find out exactly how long they would last.

It's very easy to simply put blanking shims in place, so there isn't really any need to find an alternative. Fixing the valves shut reliably would involve a lot of effort, while simply commanding them shut could not be relied upon.

Hello to everyone,
if it is possible i would like a bit of advice from you experienced people regarding egr valves.

I own a LRD3 2006 diesel 2,7 automatic which after diagnostics at the dealer, the left EGR valve come up to be faulty.
My question to you and asking for your kind advice is the following: what is the best thing to do,1)fully blank the faulty one and just take it out of the car,2) replace it with a new one or 3) get it out and clean it from carbon deposits and refit it? Is it wise to choose also an option from the above for the Good functional one, ie should i replace, clean or blank the good one too?
After the diagnostics were carried out i have done more than 2000km with the car and now it has a leak of coolant which is a major one (2 lt/day) and which i can not trace. Is it possible that the faulty egr valve affected the egr cooler and cooland leaks from there , evaporates and that is why i can not trace it?
Thanks, enjoy your LR.

Blank the both of them. The other egr will likely fail soon too.

Τhanks for the advice Irwin,
Yes, I think blanking them both with a full kit is the best option, technical wise, money wise and efficiency wise...
I really do not understand why they put them there from the first place...are not reliable, do not do much of a gain in any sense and suffocate the car new or used...
Cheers
