TOW bar electrics easy to fit?????
Brought my self a detachable towbar for £185 on ebay much less than the £368 quoted by LR.
However I was looking at the twin electrics, does any one know if the are easy to fit? I understand there maybe plugs behind the rear lights?Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Silver/Black leather

My local dealer told me it was easy it only took them 20 minutes, although I am sure if I were to do it for the first time it would take a couple of hours. Fitting instructions can be found at http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp

hi
Dead easy to fit.Pass cables from plugs into gap behind rear nearside light.Fit fuse box onto locator in inside rear panel in boot.Pass loom through grommet into rear light area and connect cables, the connectors are shaped so you cannot go wrong, then do the same inside the rear panelTDV6 Se Zermat. 07

Fitted my electrics in about 2 hours. The routing is the most awkward part, crawling under the car and getting the cables past the weights without damaging them proved the most challenging. Made good use of a bit of wire coathanger and some strong thin cord.
Good luck and think of the £140 labour cost saved. Thats what my local dealer wanted to charge me.

Whats this about towbar electrics software - do these bits just plug in as it seems and work, or do you then have to get LR to 'enable' it in software? I'm confused. Fitting seems straightforward, but if then you have to go cap in hand to the dealer for a software mod, it seems less worth it.

You need to tell the D3 that the electric's are fitted. This is so it can do clever things with the air suspension... forget what exactly but may be the auto raising and lowering in TR modes
Slimer will know.
Don't think its essential though for getting the power and braking lights to work.

I read something about towing off road and that the ecu needs to know that it is towing something, but as my trailer indicator light works when I'm indicating, then surely the car already knows.

removed the old wiring in about 30 mins ready to move to new Disco next week. What are those weights for - and how could you damage them - they're bl**dy great chunks of steel. If they were any bigger I'd wheelie down the road.'

I meant damaging the cables and connectors whilst trying to get them past the weights. What are they for, God knows.
I'm sure someone here will explain.
