Fitting Side Steps
All
Going to attempt to fit my side steps this weekend. Down loaded the instructions and studied them at length. Looks pretty simple, apart from the cutting bit!!
Does anyone know if the three cutouts required in each sill cover is pre-marked on the inside??
Thanks

Yes the cut outs are pre marked.
I drilled pilot holes on the corners of the cut outs and used a fine blade in a jigsaw to do the rest, quick clean up of the edges and away you go Zermatt silver 06 reg.

I can take some pics if people think it might be useful, however the instructions look very thorough, and can be downloaded off the Landrover web site.
There seems to be two slightly tricky bits:
1) Getting the sill cover off without damaging it or the car;
2) Cutting out the pre-marked cutout holes in sill cover.
So I will concentrate on these bits.

The cutting part looks fairly straight forward as does the removal of the top half outer sill cover, however I am slightly unsure of the removal of the piece in point 4 / 5 / 6 and 7. I know it is asking a lot when your hands are cold and covered in crud, but pictures would explain a thousand words.
Cheers,
Andy. Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"
I used a plastic cooking spatula for flipping pancakes etc (you can see I do the cooking, not ) to remove the trim, worked very well and of course no scratches.
Don't get hung up on the instructions it is all very self evident when you get going.Zermatt silver 06 reg.

Great minds think alike! I used exactly the same implement to prise off some roof tracks on the last motor - you can apply plenty of levering pressure without scratchingSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Here's a few pics to describe the process of fitting the side steps. Apologies if they are a bit thin, it was bl**dy cold outside yesterday!!
First problem - there are two screws in the rear wheel arch that need removing to free the sill cover, but there is very little space. A right angled screwdriver is very useful!!
Once the fasteners have been released, start to ease the sill cover away from the car body - some sort of plastic cooking implement is ideal for this job!!
Once the sill cover is off, the holes for mounting the step brackets can be identified:
The sill cover prepared for cutting by drilling a 6mm access hole in each corner of the cutout markings:
One of the cutouts in rough form before cleaning up:
Points I learnt by trial and error:
1) Some of the underside bolts go through the sill cover. Both bolts on the rear bracket and the rear one on the front bracket. For these ones, you need a big washer outside the sill cover, a spacer washer that takes up the thickness of the sill cover, then a big washer on the inside of the sill cover.
2) You can damage the sill cover on the inside corner of the rear door as you fit and wiggle it about.
3) The rear brackets look the same, but they aren't!!
4) The sill cover needs a bit of force to get it right over the bottom of the bracket and towards the middle of the car enough. Especially the front bracket.
5) The cutout does not need to perfect. It's hidden from sight. If I did it again, I would slightly overcut the template to make fitting over the brackets easier.
6) A jigsaw with a scroll blade makes the cutting out very easy.2018 1.5Ti Skoda Octavia - dull as f&ck

Well done! and cheers for the pictures - I thought the holes would be covered by the steps. I think I'll now order a set of steps.
Once again cheers for the pictures - hope it wasn't too cold! Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"

Just got fitted!!
Horray!
Bought some sidesteps from Yeovil at a fair discounted price....Nick Lee at Yeovil LR was very helpful. Steps boxed with fitting instructions too.
Fitted the steps within 2 hours without any problems....... Few tips to add to above
1. I used an electric jigsaw and liberal drilling in the cut out, worked like a dream, very straight cut and very quick
2. Must duck tape the middle section of the sill cover to avoid scratches (as previously mentioned)
3. Use the philips screw head bit with a rachet set to unscrew the sill cover, works like a 90 degrees screw driver.....as most short screw driver will not be able to be short enough to fit in the wheel arch!!
4. Better have a second person nearby for final fitting....
Hope that add a little......
