Major pain with a loaded boot! Went to open tonight and it just will not open. I get the release noise so it is not an electrical faliure. I read another thread as well about holding the lock/unlock buttons for 5 secs. This gives me exactly the same result. I hear the release noise but it doesnt open - and that is also when someone is pushing from the inside.
Any other ideas!!
Cheers

Gary my 06 did exactly the same about 2 months ago only way in for the stealership was to wrench out the rubber cover over the handle and actuate the solenoid from there, said it was ingress of water into numberplate light/handle housing, check see if the numberplate light lenses have gone orange with rust mine had! Could be same problem! Your still under warranty get it in!

You need to lever the lower tailgate trim out from under the plastic trim, and about behing them. Small hands are a bonus here, as its a bit tight.
Someone did post up a guide of how to do it, but cant find it... My D3 Build Thread

Thanks Guys - I can't find the threads either so I will probably try and get in the dealer early this week to sort.
If I can find the thread I might have a bash myself!

Gary, I've got the same problem, you'll find the end of the cable between the actuator and the latch will have snapped off, easily replaced once you've got the tailgate open, I've got instructions on how to get to open the top tailgate by manually operating the lock mechanism, have tried myself and it's very difficult, very fiddly, if you pm me your email address I'll forward the instructions onto you.

The dealer will charge you about £300 to do it, it costs £23.00 for the parts and takes about an hour to do maybe a bit longer.
I would definitly have a go your self first - I think if you even destroyed the inside trim you would be still £200 in pocket.
If it is under waranty get the dealers to do it. 15 3.0 RRS HSE - Silver
05 2.7TDV6 S AUTO Silver - Retro-fitted Leather.

Thanks Guys - still in Warrenty so I will book in to get this done this week.
Bit of an added rant here - I have to say how ever much I love this car I am starting to get a little naffed off with reliability.
Since Xmas alone I have had:
1) TWO EGR values fail - both replaced under warrenty
2) Locking reviever sensor faliuire - so non of the locks would work from the key. Had to have replaced.
3) I still have a fault (which I will get done with the tailgate) of the car going into ape s*** mode and losing transmission (fault), lowering to access height etc. I have already replaced a rear bulb as threads suggest but still the problem remains.
4) Tailgate access.Which of course brings me to this thread.
5) Oh and I still have a really annoying squeak which sounds like a mouse when the car is going over any bumps - which you dont expect on a £44K HSE!
All in FIVE months. I hope I have a spell of reliability because I am getting fed up
Thanks for all the continued feedback and support as it is the only thing that has kept me motivated!

Hi Guys,
I am a new member since today.
I am having the same problem with my tailgate.
Please someone tell me what to do. As a new member i cannot yet send a pm.
I have had the car since new in 2005. Now 245,000 kms done. This is the first time the tailgate has given me problems, and of course, i needed to put stock into it today, and couldn't.
thanks
Conor.
