Any members have TMC fitted in there car
Wondering if any one can help me ...
I need to see what the TMC amplifier unit is connected to .If you open the boot there is a little panel that just pulls off ( held in by 4 clips )
The one that CFB has his strobes attached ( hope you dont mind me using your pic Andy )
Once removed there is a whiteish / gray box on the right hand side which has a coax cable connected to the right hand side of the rear glass .
On the left there should be another box (think it might be redish ) ..there should be a cable comming out . What i need to know is does that cable connect to the left hand side of the rear window glass ..or go somewere else .

Adrian, the black wire thats also attached somehow to the screen I presume you are on about. It is secured to the screen by a round black fixing, and the wire runs to the red box just behind the loom there. If you take off the side rear screen trim too the red box is more exposed.
The Black wire goes into the red box via a tiny slot just wide enough for the wire, not a visable socket/connector, so I would think thats an arial and comes factory fitted and tamper proof

You coulda / shoulda guessed i would be in the mix somehow / somewhere.
i seem to have a gift for attracting any techno trouble
Sparky we may be, but we or at least i, am not infallible as i will explain.
cus it's a funny / interesting story
I have just added TMC to my D3. I know its regarded as not worth over much in the UK and over here its about as much use as a chocolate fireguard because the nearest TMC data transmitter is actually probably in the UK. well we don't exactly get congestion,
but for me its because A) i can / and want to take on the challenge and B) for diagnostic development / testing purposes.
Getting my hands on the TMC ECU is easy because i have been taking them out of imported cars for trade friends with sports etc for some time now. You see because there is no signal here, after a while the system thinks there must be a problem with the amp / antenna unit and it logs a fault, which can cause the new owner to complain. So i disconnect and remove the ECU for them, which is readily accessible, Close the Most loop and re prog the cars config to say TMC is not fitted. However i have never bothered to remove the antenna amp until i needed one, and on a sport its a head lining down job.
So a couple of weeks ago i get a late L322 in. do the usual business, Pop off the tailgate inner cover and there it is, all nice and red. However on this L322 it seems that the tailgate glass had been replaced locally. The gits that fitted it no doubt used a Cyprus spec (no TMC) glass and so there was no where to connect the little black wire from the TMC amp for them. Their solution seems to have been to slice the little wire off flush with the red box which i of course did not notice when i fitted it to my D3, thinking it must not need one.
unfortunately and in my defense / excuse mode, the LR documentation is a bit vague.
so now i know better, no small thanks to you, and i can explain why my TMC system is reporting an antenna fault i thought might be down to me using the wrong type coax to link it up. Just gotta solder another stud or wire on my tailgate glass now.
BTW i did take some pictures of my retro fit bits, but i am not going to show them now as my tailgate hinge area is really grubby and shameful compared to yours
How on earth do you keep that so clean?
mind you we do get a lot of dust out here
oops sorry i left excuse mode on
