In case you need a new challenge:

How about adding the 4.2 SC from the RRS? My wife recently mentioned to me that our Disco 3 V8 does not accelerate as good as the S-Type Jaguar did (which she made me sell Big Cry with all here complains about the lack of space....).

That modification would for sure catch the interest of your local Defender gang Whistle

Hmmn, sorry guys no challenges there.

Adding the electricals of the active rear Diff is not overly difficult, chop a few bits of the relevant loom out, which i may well have already, make up an overlay loom to the existing one etc, splice into the main where needed. I might need a new / used chassis loom, but thats not a big one, however i would definately have to give Matt a shout on the mechanicals Bow down

As for fitting a 4.2 Super charged, don't you read, that engine is sooooo last year, if i am going to bother i would at least slap the new 5.0 SC in.

You think i am joking, matt will tell you just how very close i came to buying a full set of TDV8 mechanicals. Marrying the technology up is dead easy, can be done in a few minutes with our CCF editor, so my only worry would therefore only really have been the 2 inch body shortage, and i am sure any half decent body guy should be able to find a way round that. Integrating the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme with the satnav screen via a fancy little box of tricks stowed neatly behind the facia and a fancy GUI to boot so we can play with the Faultmate via the touchscreen on a nice 3D rotating image of a D3....would that be challenge enough? Very Happy

Yea i was well proud, i dug out a Pic for ya, in fact i did start a write up of the whole day but did not quite finish it and was a bit concerned that a story of my first ever off road day would not go down that well but the pic shows the sort of thing i went up against.
That Big red job had 3 goes at one really tough bit i just flew up, when i got to the top, they were all gathered to watch with open mouths.

We could not interface with the touch screen so used the buttons and knob on the radio for input.
Access was done by simply typing in a PIN number sequence.
Sorry to dissapoint you but the project got canned due to lack of resources.

But it just goes to show you how much we love playing with this stuff.

Honestly, i really did not think it was such a big thing myself.

These cars are just a kit of parts really and i know that the technology aspect frightens many, but really there is nothing to be afraid of. They were not designed or built by extra terrestrials or something and with a bit of wit, common sense and a few basic tools anyone can do this sort of stuff even if they need a bit of help and encouragement along the way.

Do you have to have the nav system to have the rear diff locker?

Excellent read BBS and glad that you show these things are possible, well done.

One question though and I think someone else has mentioned it regarding Adaptive headlights. After wondering why no one else on EBay was bothering with a LR3 Xenon headlight unit and thinking they were all the same, after purchase found it was an adaptive one. Then read on this forum that it could not be fitted to Std LR3. Big Cry

Plugged it into my existing loom and it all works fine but the stepper motor does not activate in the light unit because the wiring for it and feedback is missing. Checked my LR service manual wiring diagrams and it seems that I am missing the ECU that controls the adaptive motors via the CAN bus and also steering feedback pot etc.

How did you get this sorted out? did you have to fit the feedback from steering (it also seems that the suspension height and diffs are monitored?)
