Shop round and see what deals are on the table. I ended up with HSE despite going out to get an XS. As said earlier the premium audio leather and sat nav make a big diffrence. Then add electric seats and all the othe bits and there is no choice, HSE all the way. I also got a good deal which made the diffrence in price much closer and an easier choice to make. Thumbs Up

I think the general view that I would regret not going the extra mile and getting an HSE is probably correct. I regretting compromising and getting a Disco 3 "S" spec nearly five years ago. Should have got the HSE then.

OK, I'm sold chaps. HSE it is then. Now to source one at non-stupid money. For the record £47K IS stupid for any Discovery.

I'm aiming for £42-43K - The local Stratstone said they were sold out til March. Any good deals around anywhere for delivery in the enext 6 months?

Motorlogix still seem to be able to source vehicles at considerable discounts. It seems they simply hawk your order around every LR dealer in the UK until they find one prepared to deal at cost. They then add their £500 for their troubles. You then collect your vehicle from the dealer (which could be anywhere in the UK) at a price that I guess you would struggle to negotiate yourself. Its a fairly personality free way of doing business - and trade in's a bit harder to negotiate on - but given the discounts appear so high its looks well worth considering.

Just one other thought though - why not say you want a GS then "treat" yourself to an XS and feel good about that. As you say £high £40k's for a Disco does feel all wrong. LR have done a brilliant job getting us to sink so much cash into these vehicles - but every now and again you do get that "what have I done" moment.

Does anyone know the spec difference between the Premium Sat-Nav on the HSE and the normal nav on the XS ?

Ive orderd the XS with rear view camera etc, but have plans for some gadgets to bring it up to the HSE with leccy addons Smile plus the sunroof would be no use on the dyno loool.

To be honest i dont have to wait till march to get it which was a big part of the decision.

Premium Nav is a bit misleading. It is really a package that gives you TMC, voice control, etc. You still get voice guidance, of course, on the standard Nav, and TMC can be added if you buy and plug in the unit....or it could on the D3, and if it requires any fiddling, then you are the man to sort that out anyway!

Ahh so really im only missing the TMC Smile , as you say i think ill have a play to see what i can do.
I assume like the D3 SE and HSE the 4x4 info will also need turning on on the XS models ?

Well let's just say we're all hoping 4x4 info can just be turned on... TMC would be nice too!

One thing for the OP to consider - make sure you drive both XS and HSE. I haven't been back to double check, and not sure if it's driving position or something to do with bigger speakers on the high end stereo, but I found in the HSE the door handle dug into the outside of my knee in a way it doesn't in the XS. I also found more adjustment range in the manual seats... but then I don't get on with electric seats at all!

Why not wait until the D4 HSE's are a year old and get a used one in the mid £30's?
You'd have an HSE and £15k in the bank!

That's the sensible man's option. Whilst I love my 5 year old D3, I'm getting itchy to change. Not sure if I can last 12 months.

Must be honest, I'm the same - it's only the fact that I can't afford to change that's making me look sensible!

Short answer is NO

Land Rover in this the UK market have got it terribly wrong in the differentiation of the models

HSE used to be all options......no brainer you get the lot & pay for it
Three years ago that meant rear AC, adaptive lamps, best CD/Radio all the goodies without having to add spec from the list.....except maybe fancier wheels

Now to get an HSE up the same spec you have to shell out to get what you got in the original HSE package...this goes along with taking the Disco up market & making a high spec vehicle a user choose thing like a Range Rover Vogue option list....
but.....considering the way LR change for changes sake they will swap back when marketing (the people who supposedly tell customers what they want or have to have) will realise the reduced sales warrant a spec change...as they have in the past
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Thats my plan... but with an XS 3.0L, too much now on a high mileage lease, but based on a reduced price year old low mileage XS (maybe HSE but doubt it).

Else I look to a Defender 110 SW XS 7 seat with some options for far less.
