And.......... an alternative method of warming yourself up on cold mornings following a failed FBH start up, beat the FBH unit with a rubber mallett for 5 to 10 mins, it wont make the stupid thing work but this method is guaranteed to warm you up !!!!!

Sounds like a complimentary pair of detection and solution. (Could you use the local scote instead of the mallet if it fails to scream??)Rob Smith

As you all, I also have the FBH issue. The thing went on sometimes in november as the temps fell under 5 deg. Normal. OK. Didnt went on in january at -10. Why? MrsZ. drowe it to the 0 km range, because refueling is a mans job she said. I did it, but the burner didnt come on. Went to the garage paid 40€ for the diagnostic. Disco doc started the FBH check, started it and it worked. Great. Then i let it come down to the reserve. Indicator light came on and the FBH stopped. OK, so far. Refueld again, -12, im standin at the gas station like "the man who stare at goats" trying to force it work with the stregth of mind. Nada.
Yesterday again to the garage, standard procedure, (!no fault!!), auxiliary heather check procedure, went on. Then Doc did the priming procedure (like as a new burner would be instaled), started it again. Clouds of smoke, me with a happy face. We drowe out on the yard, FBH stopped. Could be, because the engine is hot. Later at home as the engine cooled down i started it, no fumes no heat, nothing.
Does anybody knows what good would it be a remaping of the air con and ventilation program, because it also affects the operating of the FBH (since i have no fault message on aux heater)

The FBH will not start up if the battery voltage is too low. Unfortunately, low temperatures also cause low voltages. Have you checked that your battery is fully charged?
I must admit that i didnt check the voltage. Because i have the car always in the garage, at least over the night, i never noticed any problems with starting it. It is also true, that i have still the first (original) battery which after 5 years could loose some mojo. So:
Ill check that also, thx
in any case a report follows

Its as you described, the arrows pointing up from underneath - its fuse no 28. If you search the threads there is a reset procedure that may work if its locked out.

So,
If I get this right.....
1) open bonnet
2) open fuse box beside the battery
3) turn ignition on into stand II
4) go back to the fusebox and pull fuse 28 (yelow 20Amps)
5) wait a couple of seconds
6) replace fuse 28
7) close bonnet
8) step inside your car and close door
9) start your D3
10) FBH should fire up if: there is enough fuel, if outside temp is below 4° and if cooling-liquid is below 70°
Tried that procedure and mines still no go.

So therte are 2 of us in Warminster then. Have you got a sticker yet?HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

You might want to consider getting a Faultmate FCR from Black Box Solutions (site sponsor - see also contributions from forum member BBS Spy (Colin).
Might seem an expensive way of getting the FBH to work but will also read all the other control modules fitted to the car and enable you to clear any fault codes. Some of these codes can put the car in "Limp Home" mode, or stop it going altogether. If you can read/clear the faults, you may be able to get the car going again. Of course, if there is something 'physically' wrong, clearing fault codes won't make it better (the fault is still there and will generate another code) but, if the fault was spurious, the FCR will enable you to get going again. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills
