Just to round off this little saga, I finally got my payout cheque yesterday and banked it immediately, £500 more than I paid for the car (at a main dealer!) a year ago
NFU - no fuss no awkward questions, no hassle, payment was a little slow but they had already apologised in advance for that, it seems they've been exceptionally busy lately with the recent bad weather.
I guess it says a lot for the current car market that residuals are so high at the moment. My sensible head says keep the money in the bank for a few months and see if they start to come down, but what the hell - I want another D3 - NOW
So now I'm in the market for another one asap
By the way, I posted a little clip of the recovery here: -
Top marks to the recovery bloke, that water was bloody colddddd.
Incidentally, if anyone has any doubts about leaving a car in "park" and it rolling away, just check out the front and rear wheels trying to turn in opposite directions at about 1:05, at one point the recovery truck dragged itself backwards trying to get mine outClive

Could be - it sure was reluctant to come out Clive
Don't suppose you know where it ended up do you? I'm after a switch cover from a late SE - from the seat controls on the side of the driver's seat. The controls themselves would have fried due to water ingress, but it's just the plastic switch cover I need to get my hands on. Not available as a separate part from LR - they want £££ for the full control panel
Glad I'm insured with NFU I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Sorry, I've no idea. I did ask about buying back the salvage but they said it would be cat B and had to got to a secure breaker/salvage sort of place and wouldn't elaborate further.
Shame really, I could have done with getting the wheels with my (nearly) new AT2's off it and a few other bits.Clive
