Reduced Performance

Hi

Got D4 in november/december and everything was fine until the middle of january. Got a phone call off my dad saying that the car was displaying the reduced perfomance problem and that the car would hardly move, even with his foot flat to the floor. I'd seen the problem pop up on this forum before so told him 2 ring land rover and get it sorted. They said it was a problem with the turbo so they fetched it and replaced our car with an exactly matching one and had our car for 3 or 4 days. they then sent it back under the asumption it was fixed. the next day the reduced messege appeared again so that day the car went in again for 11 days. they then told us they had fully replaced the problematic turbo. the night it arrived back from the workshop it seemed fine. the next morning though when we started it up the reduced message appeared again. so on 29/01 it went in again.

As you can imagine my dad isnt the happiest of people now but with any luck it will get fixed now. We've already racked up 2ooo miles on the replacement D4 so atleast its keep the millage on ours down Laughing

just wondered if anyone else has any ideas what it could be thats causing the reduced performance problem considering that they've said they have replaced the turbos.

Without knowing what fault codes are present, it is difficult to determine.

However, the various comments relating to reduced performance that you have read all seem to be linked to problems with the secondary turbocharger......

There doesn't seem to be a problem with the turbo itself, rather two distinct issues with vacuum solenoid valve failing to open or the turbineshut off solenoid valve failing to close/sticking open. These are two seperate issues, which will throw up different fault codes.

The secondary turbo actuator, if replaced, appears to have a very distinct re-set procedure, which teaches the offset values for the shut-off valves - and this procedure must be undertaken correctly.

Technical bulletin LD43316 covers all this in detail, and your dealer would (I assume) have referred to that. (Replacing the turbo is not involved, so your problem may rest elsewhere).

I had a turbo replaced on my D4 about 2 months ago. Shortly thereafter I had the "low battery" warning coming up and the "reduced performance" once. It was on the motorway in Luxembourg and I pulled into a service area and restarted the car and the message disappeared and performance was back. I have now driven the car 6 weeks since the incident (app 2000 km) and nothing has come up since. Fingers crossed. Love the car though.

Been having this same issue for quite a while now. The reduced performance pops up and i usually switch off the engine and give it about 30 mins and on restart it clears. I have had it looked at here but all our LR dealers in this part of the world are clueless.

Often can be as simple as replacing the fuel filter and fuel filter housing. Did it for me.

Same as me, but I wasn't actually getting any reduced performance. Just the message. New fuel filter housing sorted it.

Split/Cracked inlet manifold perhaps? Known issue on the early D4s and a TSB in place. It happened on my MY11.

Plenty of posts on here about it.

Thumbs Up
