I doubt very much whether all that ancilliary kit would make any difference at all. The one thing that makes a considerable difference, and that has been discussed endlessly before, is wind.
slightly contradicting sentence there.. to say the RAI, rack etc makes no difference but to then say the biggest factor is "wind".......
I've had too much wine to unscramble a sentence out of it BUT i do know that wind over RAI/ rack has an impact on MPG....

Yes, ok, extra drag will make things a bit worse, but nothing like adding 10-15mph of headwind at motorway speed......

but an expo rack at motorway speed has got to be similar to adding a 1/2 MPH headwind..

The fuel consumption of a D3 is lightweight in comparrison to driving, riding one of these.

For the last couple of weeks i've tried driving like a granny and then normally. It doesn't seem to make any difference - 23mpg all the way.

I get 32mpg out of My Defender and it's only 6db louder than a D3 at 65mph and ticking over at a lazy 2100rpm with new 6 speed box, surely no one would buy a D3 for fuel consumption They are a brilliant car quiet smooth and well capable offroad but economical no.Club Pie n Pea
