Possibly a servotronic valve issue, This valve is at the RH end of the rack.
These caused heavy steering on Range Rovers.

LTB00158 - Covers RR Sports:

This Technical Bulletin is to advise Authorized Repairers that the servotronic steering valve is now available as a serviceable part. It is no longer necessary to replace the complete steering gear assembly for any of the symptoms outlined below.

Power steering feels heavier than normal through its operating range.

Power steering feels too light at speed.

Power steering feels too heavy at standstill and low speed.

In the event of servotronic steering valve concerns, it is possible that the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) C112201, C11231C may be stored.

do you know the part number of the infamous valve, being available separately now?

Thanks

Well... if this is true, it is back too an original thought, which is a lubricating the U-joint in lower shaft then...

UPDATE
Job done , thanks to fellow forum members, after lubricating the s***t out of the lower shaft, while turning the steering wheel a couple of times , it is good as new, coming back to a strait position at every turn, thanks again for a simple fix, well at least for now.... Whistle Thumbs Up

Good news Thorgal! As you probably read in an earlier post, Woody attacked mine and freed it up on the bench before refitting it. I picked up a new one from TLO this week for under £60 which I will fit asap. I think mine is already starting to tighten up a bit after just a couple of weeks so may be worth looking to replace the lower column in time.
