A box on the screen with a red line through [GPS] means that the navigation unit is getting no GPS signal.

The system will try and guess where you are but will be very inacurate.
The GPS receiver is mounted in the high level brake lamp housing though the garage you say has repaced it. The coax cable goes from ther reciever straight to the back of the Nav unit that is mounted under the passenger seat. It is the left most connector - blue in colour (the blue cover is missing off the one in this picture - the middle blue connector is video to the screen).

Worth making sure it isn't damaged. The centre pin of the connector is easily bent and damaged.

If you have only just got the car I would go back to the garage and let them sort out the problem.

Especially as your profile would suggest that your vehicle is likely to be in warranty...

I have the exact same problem on my 2006 RR Sport TDV6. To prove whether it was the aerial at fault, I bought a cheap magnetic mount GPS aerial, stuck it on the roof and plumbed it in to the satnav's aerial input socket under the passenger seat. It all works perfectly now.

What I'd like to know now is how do you get into the rear spoiler/high level brake light to to replace the built-in GPS aerial?

Thanks,

Robin

Getting into the high level brake light is a job you really don't want to do unless the light itself is broken........

Do a search on +brake +sealant and it shoudl have a few pics somewhere

I thought the GPS aerial for the RRS was in the 'shark fin' as it does both phone and GPS ? (although a I could be wrong Embarassed
 Still miss my D3 Sad

The 'fin' on the roof of a RRS and D3 is just the GSM (telephone) aerial - the GPS (navigation) aerial is in the high level brake light.
The 'fin' on the roof of a RRVouge is either the GPS, GSM or both - depending on vehicle spec.

It is a cheap and easier to put a 'fin' on the roof if the GPS fails on D3/RRS.

Over on the RRSport forum they don't agree that the GPS aerial is in the brake light assembly. Some at least seem pretty certain that it's part of the sharks fin and one kind contributor has posted a photo of the underside of the sharks fin that clearly shows 2 cables coming out, so it must be more than just a GSM aerial. Maybe the Disco and the RR Sport have the GPS aerial in different places?

I will stand slightly corrected! Whistle
From around 2006 the RRS changed to the same as the RRVouge putting the GPS in the 'fin'.
If you look closely the shape of the 'fin' changed.
I will double check and have a look next time we get a pre 2006 RRS in.
I have a 'fin' from a 2007 RRS on my D3 with the GSM and GPS on it.
The TMC changed at the same time from external power to phantom power.
The D3 stayed the same throughout.

This picture shows the underside of my 'fin'. Blue connector is GPS, Burgandy connector is GSM.

How easy is it to get into the roof lining to expose the GSM aerial at the back

At the rear of the roof lining there is a solid plastic panel with the light in it.
This pulls off and the light unplugs.
Remove the rear grab handles.
The roof lining comes from under the upper rear trim and you can then just about get at the 'GSM' plug and two nuts that hold it in place - It depends how good you are at working in a tight space!
As long as you don't bend the roof lining any crease marks will disappear.

Exclamation Also the roof lining is made with fiber glass, very itchy.

To lower the roof lining any more then becomes a big job as the upper and lower side trims have to be removed.

When putting the plastic panel back make sure the clips line up with the holes. The clips break quite easily.

Yes it looks like my GPS aerial is built into the high level brake light which to get to, you have to break it open.
I might go down Robins route next.
I tried your idea with a seperate aerial but the one I got , the plug gender was wrong, can you please tell me what one you got and from where . I have a 2007 HSE DISCO 3
thanks Chris

My fin came form a 2007 RRS.
It is slightly narrower than a Disco3 one but it fits my metal roof OK.

This is the blank that was on the roof:

This is the pre drilled holes under the blank:

SAT NAV AERIAL

I have now purchased the new Sat Nav Aerial and the new high level brake light cover from Landrover,
does anyone know how I start getting the old cover off and what type of glue do I use to stick the new one on with, any help would be appreciated.
Chris Question
