If the oil pump hasn’t been changed is it a big costly job?

The oil pump costs around £120 plus new timing belts and oil seal.
it can be a costly job if you cant do it yourself, garages charge 10hrs labour but if you dont replace it and it fails you will need a new engine.
The original pump had a weakness in the casting where a timing belt tensioner is fitted and is liable to fail at anytime, the later pumps have extra strengthening around this area. Andrew

Wow so a big issue if it’s not in the service history and as I’m no mechanic sounds expensive via a garage
Thanks for the advice

Most things on these cars cost a fortune and there are two things that can save you money a good diagnostic tool such as Autel ap200 or Gap lld and being able to do some of the work yourself.
Most garages charge a lot of money just to diagnose the fault, being able to read the fault codes and work out what the fault is will save you a fortune. Just post any fault codes on the forum and members are sure to help. Andrew

Turns out the Disco hadn’t had the oil pump changed plus suspension would drop after 3 days when left
So what causes that a faulty compressor or a leak in the system?
Guy selling said it was normal for suspension to drop after a few days of being left?

Normally its the air tank that rusts, the suspension should not drop when left for any period of time. its a sealed system and the ecu wakes up every now and then to adjust the suspension.
It doesn't look like its been well cared for and looking at the pictures its had some paint done recently. Andrew

Hi folks, ive only joined and introducing myself, im 47, living in Dublin , ireland and have two young boys, we love the outdoors/camping/scubadiving and recently getting into 4x4, and hopefully overlanding. I had a couple of Pajero a few years back and i'll be brutally honest was looking for a toyota. After test driving a few Disco i absolutely loved them, so i took the plunge and bought an old bus ..2006 2.7 TDV6, 5 seater. Im currently constructing my own roof rack to put the Roof Top tent on as the expedition ones are mental money thanks for having me and hopefully i'll learn a lot from the site

Hi all, I recently took delivery of my first Discovery 4, it's a 2010 in very good condition.
I bought it from a garage in Hull and got it delivered to Rutland without seeing it, not a big problem and virtually everything is as it should be.. However the guy did say it had electrics for tow bar and just required a hook, lying b d , there's never been any electric sockets on there so I'm in a bit of a quandry in trying to work out what electrics I can fit 7 or 13 pin. Apparently there should be 'blank' sockets behind one of the rear lights. On a quick inspection I can't see anything, I'll look again later when it's stopped raining...!!
I see mention of getting the "system" updated to recognise the fact that you're towing - update what and where..?
Anyway if anyone has any advice on fitting a tow bar (I'm going for a fixed as I need different heights) and the electrics I'm all ears..
Thanks in advance

Just saying hello guys & girls,
I’m on my seventh disco 3 but this is my first manual, non air, basic beastie owned her 2yrs 6months, recently spent a small fortune, handbrake motor, steering rack, front diff, tyres, suspension, wheel bearings, obvious maintenance etc.
I do have a question regarding whether after replacing oem springs with heavy duty 50mm height increase one’s,, do I need to get a full re-alignment/geometry done ✅
TIA

Alright folks,
Nice to be here, and great to see all the info available.
I had a TD5 disco for a number of years before she died in a deep pool....
Then went back to BMW, an F25 X3 30d, really really good car, just not big enuf anymore, anyway, I'm collecting my new (to me) 16 plate commercial D4 at the beginning of the month, dont wanna waste a months tax, must be the fifer in me...
It's an approved used motor, so hopefully be a decent one, and once the warranty is out I'll be doing my own servicing, and smaller repairs as usual.
But any advice on a good indy for the timing belts etc would be appreciated.
I stay in a wee place called Abernethy the now, just outside Perth.
Cheers
Tam
