Eek! My Whole Centre Console Disappeared!

Fired up the car this morning, centre console screen came on in radio mode, no sound coming out, and touch screen completely unresponsive. Killed the engine, fired back, still the same.

Turned the screen off, then couldn't do anything to bring it back on again, touching the screen or the left hand dial all comepletey unresponsive.

Stopped and restarted a couple of times on route, no difference.

Parked up for 5 mins and left the car, came back and all was fine again.

I'm assuming there was some kind of software crash (didn't think it was based on Windows though Laughing ) and that my intial stops/power downs while I was in the car were not long enough for the car to go into a full sleep and that when it did with the 5mins stop it perormed some kind of software reset?

Anybody have any suggestions or have experienced the same issue?

I have had the odd flaky unresponsive screen before playing back from the USB, but the audio still continued to play, and have also had problems with my iPod connection (see thread here http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic49422.html).

My car is booked in tomorrow to hopefully sort the iPod issue so I'll get them to take a look, bit of a worry though...

Had no replies so I'm assuming that not many have experieced this issue if at all.

The service centre told me it happens a lot and is some kind of power saving exercise and that it will evenutally kick back into life if you continue driving.

Never happened in this way before, not convinced....?

I think they're feeding you porkies......

If it was low power, (at least on the D3) then the radio display would say Low Power Mode.

Should have replaced battery with the upgrade service thingy?

Forget to mention it to them until after they had finished.

If it happens again I'll have to follow up though I think...

Big Cry My centre audio/sat nav has gone blank about six times since I boufgt the LR$ last March.
The only way I can get it back on is to disconect the red cable off the battery (held in place my a 10mm nut)
and waiting a few minutes before re-conecting. This seems to reboot the computer. It's a flipping nuisance as you have to redo all your settings, clock, etc. I now carry a 10mm spanner in the car for this purpose. I could drive a thousand miles and it wont come on until I take action myself. Loads of people have had this problem and LR seems not to care!!!!!!

Hi, Does anyone know if there is a fix to this? It's just happened to mine so the car is going back the the dealer for a second time (different problems) in 3 months since buying it. I'm tempted to give them back the keys and walk away from the brand.

Hi Sutton,

Sorry to hear you are having similar issues.

To be fair it has not happened again since (so far), so there may have been some credence to the power issue, I had spent some time fitting side steps with the door open a lot the day before with the interiror lights on the whole time and I did have the battery light flash up that day when I started (the day before the console gave up).

Is there any reason your battery may have drained somewhat before it happened?

What was the other problem you refer to?

I certainly wouldn't contemplate handing back the Disco on this issue alone, as a couple of niggles aside it is fr the best vehicle I have ever owened (and currently could own). I have had issues/nigles with all the new cars I have owned, be it VW or Citroen....

It was me who had this issue a few months ago - has happened twice since, and although easily fixed is a bit disappointing in a new car. Dealer says common in RRS but not in Disco 4

There is now new software available for this. A bulletin was released last week.

Yes, the car has just come back from my local dealer with the new software installed (their service is exemplary). Hopefully it will also address the EPB as that has been an ongoing issue. The roof panel damage is a hardware issue arising from poor quality build but QC (at both the factory and supplying dealer) didn't pick it up. The local dealer again has dealt with this to my satisfaction.

The D4 has the potential to be a superb all round vehicle and it's this potential that keeps drawing me back. But if Solihull is not interested in getting their act together as Halewood have done, then at the end of the day there is only one option for TATA regarding their future plant strategy, and for me regarding replacement vehicle. I want to really bond with this car as I've always wanted a LR. Hopefully the dream can still come good.
