What a great car the Disco is...when it works
Have just got back from a trip to The Nordschleife (Nurburgring) with my Caterham having towed it out there by my Disco in my friends enclosed trailer
In Belgium at about 70mph the trailer suffered a blowout but there was no drama, the Disco was rock solid and stable as I brought it to a stop..it also towed amazing well and gave me 23mpg.
All was wonderful until a sudden loss of power and black smoke out the back....pull in to the hard shoulder...turn off the car and no sign of the problem when restarted....until it did it again a bit later...same thing. Car was collected by ADAC courtesy of LR assist from the ring and taken to the local dealer, who are also it turns out the Caterham dealer for Germany as well.
The fault codes indicated a turbo problem but as the problem was intermittent they reset the fault log so I could try and drive it home as I had a deadline to get back for....well on the return journey it's been perfect...no issues at all...will take it to the local dealer now I'm home and see what they can come up with

They are indeed great cars but reliability & build quality is not one of their strong points. We run 2 D3s but also have kept the Jazz as there are times when either of the D3 has had long stays at the Hotel Stealer. Mind you the Jazz ain't much good when we get a light dusting of the white stuff!

It certainly made us laugh up here when points souff (i.e. Perth southwards) ground to a halt when they received a flake or two!
Here's our drive with the D3 at offroad height, made turning D3s very difficult. Next snow out came the snow shovels!
Sorry Puff, we digress!! Looks like you'll be joining CFT, a least you're under warranty.

Does sound like the turbo overboosted and shut itself down. I love mine. Build quality is miles ahead of my old Defender

Did you check for split turbo hose?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

If it was a split turbo hose then it would be doing it all the time and not stop after turning the engine off and back on again
