d3 heads,i have recently bought 2004 disco 3 tdv6 s with 100000mls, i can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin when the heater or ac is on, i have looked at the carbon pollen filter and it seems ok, sould i change it to be sure it is not as simple as a filter, also is there just one filter, i have auto climate control fitted. does anyone know what else could possibly cause this? scott.
is it all the time or only when you start up on a cold morning...?

Hi, normally new members introduce themselves 1st
Is it a Pungnet Diesel smell , If so it could be your Fuel Burning Heater (FBH), it fires up when temps are 5 degrees or lower. Even with windows closed, unless the air recirculation is on the system will suck in the smell.
on my settings it says Lazy Entry on, wots this. cant find in handbook anywhere

,it seems to smell of fumes when warm or cold, some times worse than other times. btw well spotted slimer thumbsup:
There was a TSB (and software update) years ago to do with putting the aircon into recirculation mode when the FBH was running to prevent fumes entering the cabin. Would be worth checking with a dealer if it's been applied to your D3 as sounds like it's old enough to warrant it. Will dig out the TSB no. for you, may not be the issue but worth checking out.
Probably worth checking the exhaust isn't leaking tooThe End

A customer may report a concern of an odor inside the vehicle after starting a cold engine in cold ambient temperatures (i.e. less than 5°C).
Cause: The heating system recirculation flaps do not close until after the auxiliary heater has started, allowing the odor to enter the vehicle. The End

I remember this on my first D3 and the update certainly helped.

Do you have to pay for updates?
Does Landrover inform customers when updates are due, or do you just have to keep asking them to check for these sort of things?

I've just had to replace one of the 90° short pipes on the back of my RHS EGR valve and I was getting exhaust fumes in the cab. I can't be the first one

Out of warranty yes. Safety recalls are treated differently but for everything else you have to pay.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
