Hi Will,

Just done the same, picked up 06 plate disco 3 HSE yesterday after having a Disco 4 deal for a year from our dealer. We have bought this one ourselves and absolutely loving it!

Might well be interested in taking that plastic A-bar thing off your hands as and when you decide to remove it. Drop me an email or pm if you would like to discuss further

Just waiting to finish work today so I can get back out for a spin too

Damian

That price sounds more than just good. That is honestly deal of the century. That car in excellent condition which you can do for a few hundred quid is worth around 16 to 17 k trade in and about 18k private sale... Bargain

I'm not stupid Smile

Setting aside the small issues I know about I'm not daft enough to think I paid over £5k less than I should have for no reason.
I'm not entirely convinced with the service history but having said that there are signs it's been regularly maintained.
Regardless, I had a budget to spend of ideally £16k but £20k on the perfect one so I have a little to play with for the inevitable problems.
What I do know is it's HPI clear [the proper thing, not this mini text message thing] came with tax until June, twelve months MOT [for what its worth] and has been flawless the first 500 miles Thumbs Up

Sounds a great deal - well done 8)

Was it a private sale? Only reason is I remember an Honest John thread about less than sound sales of D3s which involved stolen V5s so that any checks came up clear, someone had then posted that they had bought a bargain D3 with only 1 key that was then stolen a few weeks later and there were some very odd circumstances that made the chap wonder if it had been stolen by people who had been given the spare key as acquaintances of the seller.

When you get a new key is it possible to actually have codes changed so if the spare turns up it is useless? 'Scuse my ignorance if there's an obvious answer

I believe the HPI Check includes a check for stolen and counterfeit V5s...?

All good points, the single key issue crossed my mind.
However, the seller doesn't have my address, the HPI was clear on the registration plate and the V5 comes up clear [I've already read about the fake ones on the dvla website].
I took away the V5 after he signed it so I didn't fill it in while he was there.
Section 8 [trader section I think] had already been detached.
I entered all the V5 details on the RAC HPI website post-purchase after i initially checked out the car pre-purchase to activate the guarantee and it all checks out.
I checked the postcode of the previous owner and it's an industrial estate in Doncaster which checks out with the MOT testing station location.
I suspect the car was put to auction by an administrator after a company folded and the 'dealer' I bought it from wanted to move it on quickly.
We shall see though.
I ordered a key from LR saturday and will ask about re-coding both to a different frequency to that of the original.

A dealer shouldn't have allowed you to take the V5 not filled in. It is their responsibility to send it off and give you the tear off new owner slip. He also has to take your address for records, did you pay cash as this may explain the lack of paperwork. I assume you got a receipt from him with the address you collected from on it.

That price is below the We Buy Any Car Price, so you did well.

The seller was stuck in Peterborough picking up a van on Friday at teatime so his dozy son had to oversee.
I sat in his house and paid, have a written receipt and have the address and his full name.
I suspect the seller masquerades as a dealer due to autotrader legislation but doesn't want the responsibility of selling a dud.
That's fine with me at the price I paid.
As far as I'm concerned it was a private sale.

After reading the other (new) thread on this subject, it's rather sad to now read this one.

My sympathies go to Will, we've all bought something on impulse, but he seems to have gone to the efforts of checking the vehicle. However, when you read this thread you can pick up the signs which you can understand being overlooked.

Let this be a lesson to all others, if something seems to be too good a deal, then it most probably is. Big Cry
