18" off-road rims for 3.0 ltr TDV6

Some good news for 3.0 ltr owners.

I've been in negotiations with Compomotive (the people who make the alloy rims for the Bowler Dakar rally cars) for the past 6 weeks and I must say they've been very responsive. I've been sending them designs, measurements and photos from combining my (slightly illegal) steel 18" rims with their standard PD1880 and they have been sending me several prototype rims to try on the car.

I can now say that we have arrived at a design that fits - I have one of the prototypes here in my shed! Compomotive will offer a short production run to produce the rims. So the details are:

* Forged alloy 18x8 rim, to fit ALL D3, D4 and RRS diesels
* High capacity load rating ( greater than 1050kg)
* +43mm offset (10mm further out than the std LR rim)
* Std silver/grey Compomotive colouring and badging

Compomotive will handle sales in the UK. If you're interested in a set, please PM me and I'll send you details of the Compomotive contact.

Cheers,

Gordon

Good work, how much clearance ovver caliper? Slightly off topic, do any one know if D3 HSE 19" wheels fit D4?

Clearance is tight - 3 ~ 4mm at closest point on the front calipers.

Cheers,

Gordon

Wonder if that could be the issue of strange noises I am getting having put D3 HSE alloys with my winter tyres on the D4? Supplying dealer had confirmed they were compatible & interchangeable but 3mm seems tight... could this result in a sound that is not unlike the rattle from early generation abs brake systems when they activate?

Sorry, I meant clearance is tight for the new Compomotive rims, not the LR ones!

LRD3 wheels and tyres

Hey Gordon, I really like the style of your new wheels and tyres on the RRS and as I'm a new member of the forum (and a LRD3) I'm not able to send PM, yet.
I would really appreciate if you can send me the contacts to the supplier in the UK so I can get a price from them as well as suggestions on tyres for our off-road adventures in mountain and dessert environment.

Do you have any suggestions with regards to rims with bed locks as we're going to drive in e.g. the Sahara and would require low pressure etc. If it's really needed or if these will do? (I suppose they don't offer bed locks'?)

Looking forward hearing from you.

Thanks,
Johan

Very beautiful this rim!
I really like it, but I would need them in 9x18 or 9,5x18 because I fit on my car tyres 285/55 R 18 and I need a larger width.
I have asked to Compomotive, but they have answered this is impossible.
