True Rock Sliders for the LR3/Discovery III
Hello all, I have in my hands an honest to goodness set of real rocksliders for the Disco III. I am not an advertiser on Disco3.co.uk, so a little unsure what I am allowed to do regarding marketing of these beauties.
The intent of this post is to gauge the interest level in them. These sliders will be available shortly, and shipping worldwide is anticipated. we are trying to determine how many should be made up in the first batch. Obviously, the more interest we have, the larger the batch, and the lower the individual production cost.
These have taken a while to develop, and are a bit involved to fabricate. They are not inexpensive, but they are STRONG. They are strong enough to support a Hi-Lift jack, and obviously, the weight your truck should it come to a halt up on a rock.
The design of these sliders provides low profile protection of the rocker panels under the doors, and extends back to the frame, also protecting the air compressor and tank. There are outer tubes that are quite stout, and act as standoff bars that project out slightly farther than your wheel wells and bodywork. This is the level of protection I have been waiting for!
The sliders bolt into existing mounting points. No welding is required.
Cosmetically, they look like factory designed equipment. They blend very well into the body lines of the Disco III and function as step rails as well. They are powder coated and available in your choice of black
These sliders are being mounted to my truck tomorrow, and I will be posting detailed photos of the sliders, the mounting, and before/after shots on my website over the weekend.
If you are interested in installing something like this, please post here or email me direct at nathan AT woodsfamily.cc

Yep, I'd be very interested, subject to cost and shipping.... any chance of a set being available before mid - October? Maybe as a bit of sponsorship for the Disco3 Morocco event?

These look brilliant and I will have problems stopping myself from buying some -
Here comes the question...
I presently have LR side steps (likely to appear soon on eBay - ), to allow access for elderly in-laws (both late 80's...).
Your new kit is obviously strong enough to act as a step but I am concerned about "foot hold" on the tube for my rear octogenarian passengers... Would the design lend itself to some sort of detachable tread plate under the rear doors?"Funny, mine doesn't do that......."

Don't know about removeable, but it would be possible to permanently attach some checkerplate to the top with rivets I would have thought.
Or possibly an even better option. Some "grip tape" applied to the bars.
1. A small plastic step to be carried at all times -
2. Buy a trailer and bung them in that -
3. Wait a few years... -
Really just want something to fit when I need it..."Funny, mine doesn't do that......."

I had, well still have, a similar situation and opted for the side steps, but have since found some folding kitchen / general purpose steps that fold away to virtually nothing. Used them a couple of times, with the steps still fitted mind, and they do a good safe job. Might be worth a look and there are loads out there. Then you have possibilities… D3 HSE V8...
Idea... - Somehow piano hinge a piece of this from the bottom of the sill plate out to the top of the tube... Fold down when you need it, fold up when you don't...
It's just about crazy enough to actually work -
Now all I need from Nathan are the measurements..."Funny, mine doesn't do that......."

Put me down for a set HSE TDV6 Silver : "Avin it large"
What is the liklihood for them to collect lots of mud on the top of the plate which you might have trouble washing off?
I'd luv to know price plus shipping to Oz.
Thanks,

That's a specific concern we attempted to solve. They flange up into the wheel well, so mud won't be shoveled in. There are several large "weep" holes in the bottom plates to allow you to squirt water in and mud, dirt, and sand out, and finally, there is a rubber seal that covers the top of the sliders under the door to work as additional protection from foriegn material from entering.
Pricing has not been finalized. October availability...hmmm. Possible I think. Would need a firm committment from a number of people (probably in the form of deposits). How many are going to Morroco? I have not been following that thread.
