i regularly get this type of sunset view from a layby in a country lane about 2 miles from home (the highest point, locally and unobstructed by trees etc) Finished off with photoshop and a cheap app on the ipad that I like.

Thanks for the comments, more pics to come in the future.

This is what I swapped for the Disco'...............quite a change eh?

I know most people overdo things when playing with HDR (I know I always do Embarassed ), but you still have to admit that the end result can often be stunning as is the case of your photo Thumbs Up

Here is one that I did with Photomatix last year. Note that I didn't frame the photo well or even plan on taking any photos in this spot - I was just playing around whilst waiting for someone to catch up, but after running the snaps through HDR I thought that the result was interesting.

Love the pics. Can anyone tell me what HDR allows you to do? The wife has iphone4 but never used this feature.

Thanks

Hdr comes down to combining the color information of several images of the same subject into one image. I can try to explain but wikipedia does a better job here.

The effect can be subtle, stunning or surreal. Personally, I don't like much of the surreal stuff.

I doubt you iPhone will be of much use here as making the images requires you to set the lighting of the camera manually... Dunno if the iPhone does allow for this.

Regards,

Wiljo

Not a huge fan of the surreal looking HDR or the Photomatix effect, I prefer something a bit more subtle. If I was going for a good HDR shot I would normally bracket 3 photos eg one underexposed, one correctly exposed and one overexposed and then combine them together in Photoshop but it can be done from just one photo.
This shot was just one shot taken in RAW format and them processed as three (one -1, one correct & one +1) and then combined in Photoshop.
