Tailgate cable stay buckled
One of the cables that support the tailgate has buckled.
Is this an easy fix, new cable, bolt off/on?
Cheers,

Easy job, did mine last week after it snapped. Cost about £20 for whole mechanism and takes about 10 minutes to fit. You just pull the side trim, access the two bolts holding it on, pop the clip off the tailgate end and then fit the new one.

Depends on which side you need and oddly the price is different for each side.
If you google discovery 3 tailgate stay a number of online shops show them. I would have a look but I am on a iPhone.

countrywide, when your cable snapped did it do any damage to the hinges or tailgate?
Just slightly concerned that they state this can be used as a seat, and if one cable were to snap whilst someone is sitting on it, whether the other cable has the beans to hold the weight, or whether the tailgate just gives out and causes major damage.Regards

Like the way you concentrate on "major damage" to the car. Never mind the someone sat on it supping their hot pot of tea and eating their cheese and ham sarny

Hi - I have to replace the lefthand tailgate stay this weekend. I tried pulling on the trim but didn't seem to get very far - is there a knack to this?

hey, I have this, left hand side, wrongly using it to bungee a pushchair to and now it's buckled.
Any pictures of where it all comes away would help. You can give me the finger as you do it

Can you just get the cable, or do you have to purchase the whole mechanism? Parts numbers for the whole mechanism is BHF780050 (LH) and BHF780040 (RH).
How much does TLO do them for?
Thanks
John

I have only seen the whole mechanism as the roller is springloaded. They are not expensive - about £20 plus VAT (the right one is more expensive than the left). I ordered mine from britishparts.co.uk
