Petrol Fuel Tank PROBLEM!!! |
|
Help please!
Two years ago I changed the fuel tank under warranty because the fuel gauge stopped working.
Since then, every time there is little less than ¼ tank and entered on a slope, the engine stalls, as if he had not a drop and still indicates a range of at least 40 KM.
I've been to 3 different dealers and can not find the problem. Even change the tank again, but the problem continued. Now they are trying to convince me that it is normal, but I have years with LR and I have never pulled a car that stopped when it has not even turned on the reserve light!
Any ideas? My Disco is petrol and here in Spain have little experience with these models, since 99 percent of Land Rover here are diesel.
For additional information, one of the attempts to solve the problem, I have the bug. However, each time he filled the tank, began to throw gasoline! Bring it back and they said it was a bad joint and in effect, stopped pulling fuel but the engine stopped again, when it was low on fuel, on any slope. Yuri Bilbatua

Sounds to me like the fuel pump pick up pipe is not long enough. If it's too short it will be OK when over a 1/4 tank of fuel but, as soon as the level drops the pick up pipe can't get any fuel.
Just my 2p's worth.

Does it stall going up hill, down hill or both?
Did they replace the fuel pump assembly when they replaced the tank?

I am not sure if it applies to petrol engined versions but on the diesel there are three fuel pumps in the tank. There is a separate pump and pickup tube for the front and rear of the tank. These each transfer fuel into a reservoir in the centre where a third pump picks it up for the engine. If one of the end pumps is not working correctly then you could suffer fuel starvation either going up or down hill.

Same problem here in the US. I just got the 3 and started having this same problem. So far my fix is to not let the tank get past 1/4 full. here's a link to my thread. http://landroverforums.com/forum/lr3-28/20...ing-52159/ Hope this helps. The last bit of advice was to let it get to less than 1/4 and try driving without the fuel cap. If it keeps running without the cap on it may indicate a restricted breather/vent pipe. But I haven't done that yet I'm waiting for some spare time to screw around with it.
