Fuel burning heater not starting

As ive always had intermitant problems with the fuel burning heater on start up I have now decided that action must be taken as its been causing me problems for years ( doing my bloody head in !! )

So if yours is doing the following,

1.fbh fan starts as normal
2. ignition stage started
3. ignition stage interuppted
4. fbh shuts down

I have found that if you disconnecting the fuel hose to the burner and hold over a cloth or paper towel then start the fbh with the remote or the webasto timer and wait for the starting procedure, as soon as you see the fuel coming from the pipe refit it to the fbh fuel inlet pipe, the fbh starts fine.

I have checked the fuel pump and checked the one way valve in the fuel pump feed, I do know that fuel is not leaking back to the tank. So I finally removed the FBH from the car and have now stripped down.

I have found carbon deposits in the heat exchanger that maybe interfering with the fuel delivery. I have stripped and cleaned all carbon deposits and will report as soon as I refit the FBH.

I have taken photos during the strip down so as soon as figure out how to upload I will put on here. Fingers crossed It should work again!

Look forward to your pics and maybe a "how to" mine suffers same symptoms as you state.

Can i ask how you release the clamp around the FBH fuel inlet and resecure it? I think we used pliers and a flat blade, just wondering if there is an easier method!

Hi guys

fuel burning heaters, VVT turbos etc can be made to operate reliably by adding 1:200 ratio JASO-FC 2 stroke oil into the diesel with EVERY tank filling.

It really works. Those long time campers who had to battle with the old type webasto diesel heaters as fitted to the Westfalia VW Campers will know, what I am referring to.

Fitted the unit yesterday and all seems ok, started from the remove three times yesterday, the fbh ran this morning using the remote so I will keep checking this week and hopefully get the pics on.

Fingers crossed!
