Just had my Disco up on a four poster ramp to investigate a slight knocking coming from the back end when going over bumps
i think ive found the problem
There are 2 weight like things at the rear end each side near the exhaust tail pipes that move freely backwards and forwards
when they move fully forward they hit something metallic causing a slight knock
Does anyone know what they do and surely this must be a common problem
Although i think im a bit overly fussy about knocks and squeaks

unliely to be those that are causing the knocking - they will always touch the chassis bits etc if you move them by hand
more likely to be the ARB bushes or suspension bushes. also, have you been offroad in mud recently - its quite easy to get mud tucked up into the side of the rear diff between the diff and the exhaust - then when going over bumps any stones/clay bang on the exhaust - had that a few times - took me ages to find it the first time Duncan

only had the car a couple of weeks so its the first time ive been underneath but it looks so clean im guessing its never been offroad
i was hoping it was the harmonic dampers causing the very slight knocking

what reg is it - the arb bushes are a common thing to cause the knocking - easy to change and only cost a few quid - worth doing anyway and see what difference it makes before worrying about the suspension bushes... Duncan

Got the same knocking from the back end - had the car on a 4 poster at work traced it to the arb bushes. Loads of play.
Tomorrow I'll be fitting new bushes, cages and bolts. Looks a very quick job. 2013 Evoque

Who spoke too soon ?
Well the new arb bushes are fitted, new cages and bolts but took 2 hrs of swearing.
The bolts were so corroded that they were on the verge of shearing so had to clean, lube undo a bit, retighten, reclean, relube.
Still got them in and goodbye knocking. Brilliant.
Whilst I had it in the air had a bash at a very corroded nearside rear caliper and carrier. Much much better.
Might keep the old gal just a bit longer. 2013 Evoque
