WTD - NEW ENGINE MY05>06 PLEASE
Just preparing ourselves for the VERY strong poss that we did not get to our aim of "to the moon and back" but crash landed somewhere on the outskirts of the atmosphere at 472k.
If you guys and girls are aware of an engine that is likely to be suitable, PLEASE PLEASE GET IN TOUCH

Worth seeing if LR (as opposed to deslers) will do you a good deal on a new lump so they can see how they do internally after many, many times round the planet??

What a shame if that's the case. Have you had a compression check done yet?

That's a pity - can't you 'limp' it to 500k
I would like to think LR would be ineterested in an engine with 1/2 million miles to take apart, but I guess not Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

Don't give up yet - she's only got to make it another 5000 or so - I think to the moon and back is 477714 miles. I looked it up 'cos my Audi's just got there!
Did they check the compression on that cylinder? I think if it wasn't working at all you'd have noticed the rough running, so maybe the oil has just come from the rocker cover gasket?
Best of luck mate!

thanks for your kind words, just thinking owt loud and trying to justify keepin on the road by not spending a huge fortune.
Dry and wet compression test tomorrow. The fault seems to be on cylinder 3 despite having all the injectors replaced so after that, will do a leak down test to see if the issues are bottom end or top end of the engine (worst case, bottom end and that's a complete second hand engine/new d3, top end then half an engine/new d3)
Found these two videos on you tube, gives a good overall idea of what a compression test and leak test is

I would try that scrappy near TLO, think it is CWS, I have used them in the past, tell them TLO sent you and you should get a little discount, although they are not the cheapest in the first place.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I have a TDV6 Jag engine that would do the job but you would need to swap some components over such as the sump, inlet manifolds etc.
They are the same engine from the same stable just with slightly different ancillaries and this one was used as a test engine on a bench - something to do with heat from the exhaust manifolds etc.
PM me if you are interested.
Nearly forgot, I am looking for £1200 for it "UNDERSTEER" ---is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" -is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" ------------is how far you take the fence with you.

pinhead, on reflection no point even if we do:
a) compression test then leak test might at best confirm a top half engine but would always run on a 400k bottom
b) change the top half and find something goes on the bottom half
Spoke to Commercial Director of Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions who supply the LR recon units. They are going to do a "warranty" inspection to confirm how the engine failed (so that we can take forward our claim for compensation) at the same monies it would cost to further carryout diagnostics.
BTW, interesting point is that demand is currently outstripping supply with over 180 units supplied each month this year, problem is alot are no longer in serviceable condition when they come back in as an exchange so he recons that come end of may, not likely to get the parts to rebuild suggesting that it will be OEMLR only for a short while over the summer which are near to double a recon unit

May also confirm that there is nothing wrong with the mechanical side of things and you need to keep looking towards electrical /fuel direction it could be the case that you buy a low milage replacement from a breaker and still have the same fault because it's not the main lump that's at fault
