front wishbone top ball joint

Now that I have replaced the track rod ends I have found that the NSF top ball joint is suspect.

Anyone know how this is replaced- all advice appreciated

John

Need to remove the top arm, and press/hammer the old ball joint out. There is a circlip on the underside of the arm holding it in

When fitting the new one, it has to be aligned correctly, so mark the top arm with the alignment marks on the old ball joint before removing Thumbs Up

Alternatively, replace the complete arm, which will come with new bushes and a ball joint already fitted

I replaced both ball joints at a cost of about £40.00. This included the basic cost of the ball joints plus VAT on both the joints and delivery charge.

Time to replace both was about 1 hour. Very straight forward job -- remember to douse the ball joint nut and the locking nut with wd 40 or similar.

Torque values as follows

Ball joint nyloc nut 70 NM
Track rod locking nut 55nm

As regards worn track rods- jack up the car and see how much movement you get holding the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock positions and giving it a good wiggle. You get the impression that the track rod is moving but in all probability the movement is from the track rod end.

hope this helps
