Is there a "How To" for flushing PAS |
|
There are many items on how to replace / flush fluids on this site but I can't seem to find one for the PAS fluid. Is it just me and my on-going age related ineptitude or has this not been done with any detail yet?
Maybe it has not been done because it is just not necessary to do it?
I would like to try, but can't find detail on just how much fluid would be required for a decent flush exercise. Also I think I found the bleed valve(s) on the rack but cant be sure.
Anyone got any advice?

Interesting
Does one assume that you have a steering issue otherwise not fixed by the more traditional methods i.e. bushes, track rod ends etc etc

It does go a bit heavy at times, but really it is more about fluid cleaniness.
Brake fluid and all other oils have replacement schedules. I just think at 6 years the fluid is probably past it's best.
I am looking to keep the car for another 4 years ( until it's 10th bday ) and would just like to look after it as best I can. NOW SOLD: 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Zermatt silver with Alpaca Leather

by the way this below stopped me removing the steering box and replacing/resealing and no sign of leak http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWER-STEERING-R...e.steering boxes are £250+

I didn't do a full change as such but I did a 'refresh' by the following method:
Drain out as much fluid as possible from the reservoir - I used a cheap turkey baster to suck it out with.... Be very careful not to push too far in - their is a small mesh filter in the bottom.
Fill up with fresh fluid to the 'Low' mark
Turn steering full lock through full lock several times
Repeat entire process until fluid clears
I used two full bottles of fluid - No especial improvement but I refuse to believe any oil lasts for ever and I intend to keep the D3 as long as possible. I see no ships........

I am dredging up this old post as I am working through the change of all fluids (125k miles and intending to keep the car owned since new as long as possible). PAS fluid is next on list.
I have read all the search results on "power steering". This was the closest I could find to a "How to".
My questions:
1. I know that I cannot mix fluid types. How do I replace all fluid to ensure that I am not mixing?
How much fluid would I need?
2. If I do a partial drain and replace as indicated on this thread (spiderbaby), could I use this fluid http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/06161-cen...3625-p.asp assuming that what is in the system at the moment is LR original?
3. Or, should I play safe and refresh with LR fluid?
Thanks in advance 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
