2005 HSE, blown engine, How Much?
Trying to figure out if it is worth replacing my engine or not?
I have a 55 plate HSE that the engine exploded on at the weekend!
Having a quick looking around you can get supplied & fitted Engine from £2500-£3000 but that sounds to good!
So if I go down that route it will be getting traded in very sharpish!
Form a garage I trust there quoting £4000-4500, they are not a Land Rover specialist!
My questions:
Is it worth doing?
What sort of money could I expect to get if I sold it ‘as is’ for spares/repair?
(I don’t have the inclination to strip so would be as complete vehicle)

Sorry to hear that What happened?
I suppose whether its worth it or not depends on the mileage and condition of the rest of the vehicle. You never know - DiscoDunc might be interested in it now he has the facility and experience to strip a D3 naked

The rest of the vehicle is in good condition for age, interior is black leather all good, few marks on paint but all panels straight, was/is fully serviced and done circa 78,000miles.
I’m not that mechanical minded but my chap investigated and said the most likely reason and he checked with land rover who told him the reason is, is was probable run on bio diesel by the previous owner, that caused something to come loose and drop into engine, think he mentioned injector ends!, I’ll get full report tonight and let you know.
All I know is I was doing 70mph or 90 on the M3 there was a bang, oil pressure light came on, big cloud of oil smoke out of back and it died had to coast over to hard shoulder. Now there is a whole in the side of the engine!
I'll try Discodunc when I get report and know a bit more.

My mechanic has just text me.
Please remember this is just the opinion of the chap at land rover he spoke to, but it does fit.
I’ve had the car less than 8,000 miles about 8 months.
Probably previous owner had been running on bio fuel in the past which caused the end of injector(s) to weaken and eventually drop into cylinder and cause it to break the rod.
The land rover guy recons he has replaced about 10 engines for this reason this year.
If you did decide to break it I would buy the seats from you..

Am having engine of discodunc and putting back together.
There will be some auxiliary engine bits left over, like turbo, alternator etc but not for a month or two.
