Accusumps - has anyone used or investigated them |
|
I don't want to HiJack this thread:-
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic82615.html
where I have made reference to Accusump.
Has anyone used, or considered using:-
An Accusump to protect the engine on cold starts, particularly in view of what George has said in the thread referred to above? It's a good bit of kit, but finding space to fit it & plumbing it in may need considerable thought.

An Accusump Turbo-Oiler, which protects the turbo on shut down, similar to the systems used in Turbo-prop aircraft?

It's many years since I used an Accusump, but it certainly "does what it says on the tin".
For more information you should read the PDF files here:-

I'm not an engineer and would appreciate views from those with relevant experience.

As the disco is not a race car i dont see the need for an extra device.
On start up rather than extra kit, the same end result could be achieved by cranking the engine over for a while before actually starting it. I remember a peugeot diesel in the 90's that did just that, the engine would crank over for about 7 seconds before starting. It was waiting for a certain eng oil pressure to be reached before enabling the fuel in injectors.
As for the turbo, it is always a good idea to let the engine idle for a while before turning it off. That way the turbo turbine has time to slow down while it still has oil pressure.
EDIT
Should have said we would have to make some changes to the disco fuel rail electrics to achive similar results as the Peugeot above.
