HOW TO: Fit New Heated Washer Jets
There's a couple of threads on here about how useless the factory heated D3 washer jets are. Apparently, they've been improved and - this afternoon - I upgraded mine for the new ones. It's very quick, cheap, and easy to do and should help prevent your washer jets from freezing-up this winter, when used in conjunction with the correct screen wash.
Heated Washer Jets were typically fitted to the Discovery 3 as part of the "Cold Climate Pack" which included Heated Front Screen, Heated Seats, and Heated Washer Jets. It was fitted as standard on the "S" model upwards and was offered as an option to the "5 Seat" and "7 Seat" base models.
The parts you need to do this job are:
2 x Heated Washer Jets (LR018834)
1 x Pack of 5 Bonnet Insulation Push Pin Clips (BTR2985) just in case you break/lose any
Order your parts from TLO
The tools you need to do this job are:
None really, although you may find a very thin open-ended spanner useful for removing the push pin clips
Time to complete:
10 minutes
Complexity
Dead Easy = SWMBO could do it at a push
Cost
Cheap! About £15 for the washer jets and another £5 for the push pin clips (if you need them)
Let's get cracking...
Open the bonnet
Carefully remove the little black push pin clips that hold the bonnet insulation to the underside of the bonnet, taking care not to tear the bonnet insulation panel (easily done). The clips have a tendency to ping off into the depths of the engine bay if you're not careful. You don't have to remove them all. You should be able to gain access to the washer jets by just removing the ones at either side. It does make it easier to take the whole insulation panel off, though. If you do this, rest the bonnet insulation panel on top of the engine to prevent any other bits and pieces from dropping down in there, never to be seen again.
You should now be able to see what you're dealing with:
Offside
Nearside
Disconnect the black multi plugs for both washer jets - push the tab on the multi plug down and pull apart
Disconnect the washer fluid hose from both washer jets - it just pulls off
Remove old washer jets by pushing them upwards towards the front of the car and pushing the jet side out of the bonnet first. The rest will follow.
If you're a little bit OCD, like me, you'll feel the urge to clean-up the paintwork on the bonnet before fitting the new ones. Autoglym Tar Remover got rid of the residue left by the old rubber seal on mine
Get your new washer jets (LR018834) and feed the multi plug and cable through the holes in the bonnet
Push the new washer jets until they snap in - you need to put the back (without the jet) of the washer jet through first and the front will just snap in
Reconnect the washer fluid hose on both sides - just push it all the way on
Reconnect the muti plugs on both sides - they are identical to the ones you just removed
Check operation and adjust jet position using a pin or similar if necessary - mine were spot-on and didn't need any adjustment
Replace bonnet insulation and push pin clips, using new ones if necessary (BTR2985)
Close bonnet
Most of you probably didn't need instructions to do this as it's not a particularly involved job, but there may be others on here who are afraid to lift the bonnet. Hope this is useful to somebody; even if it is only for the part numbers.
Now, if somebody could tell me how I can check (with a multimeter) if they are actually working, I'd appreciate it.

The only way I can think with a multimeter is in series with the cabling somewhere (not in parallel across connections) and set on a low amps range to see if there's current flowing.

So, depends on what you've got. The D3 ones were . The D4 are better. If you don't have them already, you have some work to do.

I upgraded these from the standard ones last year but not having looked for wiring loom beforehand I ended up just fitting them as standard as I couldn't find it.
On early base models 2005, I assumed that it might be there, can anyone confirm this, is it tied back somewhere I may not have seen??

Nice job on the write up
They are better the new ones.
And whilst you've got the bonnet cover off, check for mice damage
as they are known to live there and build nests.
