reversing light +'ve wire
Hi,
I've looked all over and seem to get different answers, so...
I want to tap into the +''ve wire for the reversing light to feed power to a work light.
What colour wire do I need?
Thanks, Pete

Green wire but the reverse relay feeds the 2 x 21w lamps via a 10 amp fuse - so what power does the work lamp pull?
I'd be tempted to add a dedicated relay and fuse.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Pete, I seem to recall it was Purple (inside the rear boot access panel) when I tapped in for the feed to my reversing camera and don't forget it's only live when you've selected reverse.
Please confirm it but I'm sure that's right.
Can check tomorrow if you're still struggling.Mods:

Oh god. Does this mean I need an electronics head? I'm useless at this type of stuff!
Its a normal light so I'm guessing 35w bulb. I was just going to use the feed from the reversing lights as power so when they come on, the work light does.
How would one go about making it work if my idea is rubbish?
Thanks

Well, using your idea, you'd have to tap into the live feed and an earth point AND then select reverse with the ignition key in.
Far from ideal I would have thought.
Probably easier to plug in to either the rear 12v socket in the boot, or plug into the trailer socket. Mods:

You would be better off using a relay with the reverse light feed as the trigger input and grab the permanent +ve feed from the towing electric wiring, I think that's purple and white and it's rated to 20 amp. I'm doing something similar but want to use it with a remote control.

Yes, sorry I did mean to say about earthing it.
And when I say 'work' its more a light to see when reversing that's all. I have a worklight I plug into fag lighter when camping /fixing stuff.
Also, can you double check wire as this is the problem I'm having, some say its green, other purple... Ta

Hi Pete
Just a thought, would simply upgrading the existing reversing bulbs to brighter LEDS be a idea?

Well I have it running from R217 via Fuse 5P (10 amp) through C0585-41 on a green 1.5D wire then splits at SJ7 to feed C0121-2 for the LH reversing light and C0125-2 for the RH lamp.
Others may know more but looking with a multimeter is a pretty good idea.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Pete curiosity got the better of me and I went and checked, even though it's freezing cold.
Don't ask where I got Purple from as I was talking complete sh@!!!

Narpy, purple is the universally accepted colour for external car lights, so your answer is not far off the mark at all.

Thanks for that.
I think the loom changes once it passes through the rear bung and attaches to the rear lights and is Purple once on the outside of the car (behind the rear light).

work light
Hi
Do not wire this in without the relay if it has a 35 watt or above bulb as it will set your car on fire or fuse something
unless you use a LED work lamp as this will not pull hardly any power, either way it would be safer using the relay to keep everything safe.
cheers
Mike
