D3 with a life of it’s own.

Guys
What a day to have car troubles.
Haven’t used the D3 for a couple of days so was surprised when the alarm went off this afternoon.

To cut a long story short, after investigation.
The car drives fine but I get loads of error messages.
Range change not available, parking brake fault, special programmes not available, etc etc.

But then the worst bit – when I turn it off and take the key out a few seconds later the Hazards start flashing, the sat nav screen goes on and off along with loads of other stuff, as if I’m turning the ignition on and off every couple of seconds.
Frequency is roughly what the hazards flash at as if they are controlling the ignition.
The only way to stop this happening is to disconnect the battery.

Battery is showing 12.3V disconnected.
No water in the footwells or fusebox that I can see.

Any ideas?

Blimy what a day for it indeed. Sounds serious however hopefully an easy answer. Brake light bulbs can cause a multitude of weird issues I beleive...

Charge your battery, no load should read 12.65 volts when fully charged, I believe!

Yep, just put the battery on charge for a couple of hours to see what happens.

Tried a hard reset and it made no difference.

Forgot to add that the central locking was also locking and unlocking.

The more I think about it the more I think it could be associated with a low battery voltage somehow.
12.2V does seam a bit low, although why it would have the effect it's having I don't know.

It's the first time the car hasn't been used for a couple of days in at least two years, so perhaps something is draining the battery.

Charge the battery until you are getting 12.70 volts that's a 100 % charge on a good battery Thumbs Up

Sounds like the beginning of a CAN-BUS issue Sad
Can be quite a long, involved job to track down the underlying issue...

A bit trivial, but a 100% charge on a good battery should be 13.2v Thumbs Up

So.

My battery charger brought the battery back up to 13.6V, put it back in and all seamed well.

Locked it back up and 10 mins later the alarm is going off.

With the key out of the ignition, or now even in the first position, everything is going on and off including the hazard lights, it's bonkers.

I'm also getting a Parking brake fault showing.

I'm beginning to think it might have some water in somewhere from all the heavy rain.

I've disconnected the +ve terminal of the battery and closed it all up but can't of course lock it.

Depends who you listen to Whistle

A typical battery has 6 cells, at "between 2v and 2.2v" per cell, depending upon type of battery, which is anything between 12 and 13.2v. A fairly big discrepancy. But as said, it's trivial, and depends who you listen to Thumbs Up

This is definately a CANBUS issue now. You need the isolate each part of the network in turn, and see which cures the fault. Due to the amount of rain, check in the transfer case ECU, behind the battery.

I have also seen EPB modules fail this way, though the car is usually running for a while before this happens...

Well, that's good in some ways, the inside of the blue plug looks like the image you posted but nowhere near as bad, water in there and a bit scabby.

At least I have an idae of where the issue is.

Going to try cleaning it out first, but could do with a hint as to how the water gets in.

So all three plugs and sockets were full of water.

I've flushed them out with all I have here at the moment, brake cleaner, and they appear OKish.

What's really bothering me is how the water got in in the first place, I just can't find any 'wet' upstream of any of the three plugs.

I've plugged it all back together loosley and so far it appears OK.

Need to work out how the water got in there in the first place though.
