I don't like to pi$$ on your chips but the DVLA will allocate an age related VRAM (13 or 62 as appropriate) and then transfer the personal plate onto it - it is given this as it will stay with the vehicle all it's life and so the history can be traced, as opposed to personal plates which can be used on any number of vehicles, likewise a vehicle can have any number of personal plates on it through its life.

Is that really the case? I would have imagined that, should the private plate be taken off, an age appropriate plate would be allocated after the fact.
It just doesn't make sense...

wish i had never started this
ehm, im not so sure, dealer on first registration needs the p/plate as thats what he is placing the first reg as, the 13 plate
he had allocated he wont be using.
As far as I am aware, the first reg goes as the p/plate and IF/WHEN that is taken off a 13 plate is then allocated.
There again, maybe they reserve a "13" plate now for the car for this eventuality,
Im not over superstitious, and shouldnt have bothered looking into all this and yes ive probably made the wrong decision and paid £250 for the pleasure of it, the winner DVLA !
I think im gona forget about all of this now and just enjoy collecting the car next weekend
cheers

update
cancelled my private plate today and im going with a 13 plate.
FFU was too much like FU and would always have bothered me.....
the car is a 2013 car anyway regardless of a registration number, the 13 isnt on its own either .
its never bothered me in the past so i see no reason to let it now....
funnily enough the 13 plate ends NLD = New Landrover Discovery
