its probably more import (given where this topic is going), to note that the 255/50's are probably load rated at 106.
I have the 19" RRS alloys on my D3, but the first thing I did was took the 50 series tyres off and replaced them with 255/55x19 111V rated tyres.
It seems odd, but the D3 (not RRS) 19" alloy has a weight rating of 940kg.

Bit of an overused pic (sorry bcb!) but this is one of two RRS tyres that bobbycrispbox blew on his Peaks greenlaning trip last December. No one else had any tyre problems on that trip, I was bouncing along the same track behind bcb & not even a scratch to my tyres. I would take the view that if the minimum weight rating in the manual is 111 (112 for 18"s) then anything less is not suitable for that car. Saying that, my local stealer has swapped RRS 19" wheels & tyres for 18" D3 style 1 wheels on a few cars and doesn't seem worried.

Just thought I'd update you on my progress:
Spoken to Land Rover head office, to ask what the MINIMUM tyre weight rating they would recommend would be. Waiting for them to get back to me.
Tried to phone Kahn's, but no reply, so sent them an email asking what tyre weight rating they would recommend for my vehicle on thir 22" rims.
Called the regulation and compliance department of the Society of Motor Manufacturers, explained my issue, and they have given me the number for the Retail Motor Industry Federation, who are the correct body for me to speak to once I have all the information.
The reason I'm not going "Wading in" with my size 10's and complaining to the dealer is that I spoke to my neighbour over the weekend, who works for Michelin, so he knows a bit about tyres! He said that, although the handbook says 111, the manufacturers always over-specify to avoid litigation. The D3 weighs in at around 2700 kgs, which equates to 675kg per wheel (assuming that the weight distribution is 50/50 - anyone know if this is the case?)
Theoretically the wheel & trye combo they originally sold me WOULD have een sufficient fo the vehicle, hence my intention to GET MY FACTS STRAIGHT FIRST! If I can get a definitive answer from LR I'll be in a much stronger position...2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

during my talks with the various tyre companies, they all made it very clear there would never recommend anything less than Manufacturer Specs, regardless of whether it was technically OK or not..................
so yes it does all boil down to litigation and insurance........end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Don't know the exact figures but that makes sense, but you have to allow for any additional weight carried in the vehicle and there must be a margin added on to allow for the stresses a tyre goes through and normal wear and tear. Then if you're going to go off-road there needs to be allowances for the tougher terrain and the fact that at times the weight of the vehicle may be on 3 or even 2 tyres only. So the 'extra' LR add on top of what would appear to be the minimum you could get away with to get to the manufactures recommended figure makes a lot of senseThe End

The specification requirements laid out in the handbook are a definitive statement by the manufacturer of the vehicle and would be the focus of any subsequent litigation. It should not be for others to make judgements about what compensatory figures are arrived at or indeed say what 'should' be sufficient.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

That's my view, too, Dick, but I want to have all my ammunition ready, and the best ammo is the stuff that comes directly from LR UK. We're looking at around £5k claim her, so I want to win it clean and fast!2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

Yeah, in my manual it says the Maximum loaded vehicle weight is the sum of:
Curb weight
Accessory weight
Vehicle capacity weight
Production options weight
For example, mine comes out to about 3350kg ~ 838kg/wheel. If that's the maximum load of the truck then the tyre load maximum should be comfortably above that.I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Customer Services at LR head office UK called me back today. They were rather shocked to hear that Hillendale had specified the wheel & tyre combo I described, and will be intervening on my behalf!
