DIY tracker - what are people using? |
|
I guess it's a mod...
My GoEveywhere has recently packed it and just researching replacements... found a few car specific ones (12V hardwired) on eBay at good prices but wondering what other people on here are using?
To clarify, I'm after the type of tracker that communicates by sms, sending position, geofence violations, overspeed alerts etc (what the GoEverywhere was doing) to preset phone numbers - no service company involved. My current unit does not seem to be available any more and its replacement from Alaska (the APT-15) seems to be more than double the money at the mo... ==> Guide - Inexpensive AV Modification

I use the Garmin unit on my boat - put it on 12 months ago, connected it upto the 12v battery with the kit and forgot about it, its never let me down.
I get SMS / e-mail for geofence, speed, moving, power removed, I can also get check-ins when required - so used to have a nightly sms from it to tell me all was well
I like the app on the smart phone as well, so i can track and follow it, you also can view it online with a google map style page.

Yeah its the GTU10, and it has an annual fee - but I think its worth it because you don't have to top anything up, you don't have to do anything.
