God news
The only worry is they wont pay for everyone who askes as it will cost them, if we all ring up and say will you pay some towards a part change that you don't admit is a problem will they start to say no, or have there been more failing than we know about and they now think it is worth the paying a bit towards a few pumps instead of engines.
Is it possible that land rover could admit there is a fault and deal with it. one way could be to tell dealers to fit a pump as part of the belt change if the vehicle has a possibly faulty type fitted and they could do it for a nominal charge in the price of the belt change for vehicles on affected years.

I know this could go either way with customer's getting nasty and not wanting to pay as some will almost certainly do and others that take care of there addiction to land rovers who would rather not have it all go bang and would pay a bit for it to be done and also if they only did a big discount discount for LR dealer fitted pumps it is more trade there way and there could be a smaller discount for a pump supplied as a part for affected cars just as parts sale.
Has Liam@Landrover been asked about this problem as he seems to be our friendly contact.
Could the site members help push for something like this to be done would lots of voices asking nicely have an affect?

Does that make any sense or am I just rambling on like the fool I know I am.

I have just started reading up on this, and I am a little confused tbh.

I have a 2007 with 120k, had the belts done at 105k by a LR dealer.

My VIN is 7AXXXXXX

Is this something I should be looking at getting done?

As in a previous post...
Part number: LR002465, (superceeded to LR013487) 7a000001 to 8a457085.... Has anyone had any fail in this chassis range?

Steve, yes is the answer.

Recent posts on here show 120,000 failure as well as a sub 100k failure as well as a 230k failure.....

Mine failed at 101k IF we had identified this very clear issue, then I would have changed the oil pump at the time.

Service exchange engine from LR is £6k......

I have read the whole thread with interest and will be getting the casing done when I renew the belt. I cannot quite however get an understanding the the posts as to whether the belts should be changed at a particular time or mileage . I have a 57 plate with only 36 k on the clock. Seems a bit early for a belt change but what do I know Rolling with laughter

Hi had a 57 plate "still have but needs an engine now Big Cry " i would change the belt and oil pump asap ,as the tensioners have been failing pre cambelt change and after .... not worth the hassle let alone cost not doing it..only my opinion... Thumbs Up

Bods

I know we've spoken about this but unless I imagined it, I thought my car had an earlier engine that was affected despite having a 7A chassis number.

Is there a engine number range for this issue?

From the cam belt tensionerbroke thread.....

Right, just to sum up:

Part no: 1348651,( still a currently sold part). upto 6a999999. No reported failures.

Part number: LR002465, (superceeded to LR013487) 7a000001 to 8a457085.... Has anyone had any fail in this chassis range?

Part number LR007131, ( superceeded to LR013487) 8a457086 to 9a508509.... I have checked & both failures I have seen fell in this chassis range.... 50-60,000 miles, never had a belt change. Both 57 plates

Part number LR007798 (superceeded to LR013487) 9a508510 to 9a510121.. Has anyone had any fail in this chassis range?

Part number LR013487 9a510122 on, inc 3.0. seems like the solution to 7a/8a/9a models?

Would be handy those that have had failures to look to see which part number range you fall into, then we will have a better idea of who has to worry!

regards
Steve

So tony, yours will be a 7a and therefore will have a vin higher than 00001 I would have thought....

I did some bits on a 56 plate, but it was also a 7a vin.......

So essentially Tony, it's ANY 7a or 8a vehicle

Thanks mate.

But if we're lucky there haven't been any recorded yet in the 7a000001 to 8a457085 vin range. Wonder if I should change it?

Shocked

For the record, LR have superseded the earlier 05-06MY oil pumps to the newest part number also. Unsure of the reasoning behind it, but they have Thumbs Up
