Follow on to my dumped all coolant thread. Having now had a look, the water pump is on the tray in the bottom of the car having fallen off. I've read about them falling off and they all seem to be not long after the cam belt change. I had the belts including aux changed 1400 miles ago by Stratstone and now my pump falls off. Pump is fine, not seized, its just sheared off all the heads of the bolts. I'm not inclined to buy new bolts from LR so does anyone know what the bolts are size and length wise as I only have the thread that I've extracted from the engine.

They're the same part number as the egr bolts - ryg500220. I would bet £50 the techs got a bit spanner happy when doing the belts and undid one of the water pump bolts by mistake. I'd be pointing out this common mistake to the dealership and suggesting they may want to come up with an offer I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have had problems with Stratstone before and only went there because of their £599 cam belt offer. They told me not to change the water pump as at 47k it was not required. Then the thing falls off! I know they will tell me that it's just one of those things but it's strange how it never fell off for the last 47k miles. 1400 miles down the road and it's sitting in the floor pan.
My old man reckons it's a good job we were just starting and not zooming down the motorway with my 4 young kids and the wife driving as she was the day before!
No brakes and who knows what damage a water pump coming off at 70mph would have caused to the engine!
I'll give them a call but I'm sure it won't be their fault. I going to contact Which and see if I can get them some air time!
What torque settings do those water pump bolts need to be set at? Is it better to get some different bolts other than the LR one's or are they all the same?
Thanks again guys... Paul 2006 TDV6 S Auto, Buckingham Blue, for the wife and kids.

Why "No brakes" ?
I can't see that a water pump failing or falling off would compromise the brakes.
On another topic I think you should get tough with Stratstone - they shouldn't get away with something like this.
Good luck.

Hi,
I didn't mean brakes! I meant power steering.
Just me having a moment.
I have some M6 High tensile socket screws. My old man reckons you won't break those in a hurry.
I have the 3 ends of the bolts. The two have sheared off at the face of the block and the third one the head has sheared off. So he thinks the head has gone and then the other two have sheared under the strain.
He was a testing engineer for many years and can not understand why this would shear unless the torque on the bolt was excessive. He has a friend who can test the bolts and determine the reason for the failure, so I might get that done and then call Stratstone for a chat.
He also said there is around 7-8mm of actual thread in the block which he thinks is on the edge of acceptable. With a 10mm flange on the water pump, the actual amount in the block is quite small.
Saying that if some plonker had not of tighten the bolt too much we would be ok.
From your guys experience, it was the top bolt that the head sheared off, whilst the bottom two bolts sheared at the block. Which bolt is the one that could be undone by mistake whilst removing the cam belt covers?
Thanks 2006 TDV6 S Auto, Buckingham Blue, for the wife and kids.

This happened to me yesterday.
It will be interesting to see how the dealer responds on Monday. The Bearded Dragon

Wonder how many of these garages know what a torque wrench looks like. Almost every screw and bolt on the D3 has a torque value.

I left the D3 on dealer forecourt on Sat evening.
When I spoke to the "service advisor" this morning, all he could say was "REALLY".
When he asked where the key was, I told him that there was nowhere to leave it and so it was still in my possession. He asked when could I get it to them and I said they could come and collect it (I think that by this stage they realised I was displeased).
I'll let you know the outcome.
They have now collected the key.
Best Wishes,

Update!
Dealer fitted new water pump, even though the old one still looks pristine).
They delivered the D3 back to me.
Cost: Zero.
All-in-all the deale responded well.
Best Wishes,

+1for Stratstones, they aren't all bad. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
