Motor manufacturers talk about "Surprise and Delight" features, things in a car that despite being tiny in the grand scheme of things, bring a disproportionate amount of pleasure to the owner when they discover them. Ford used the phrase when they came up with the previously unheard of idea of a pen holder and coin stacker in the Mk1 Mondeo and it genuinely did bring smiles to peoples faces (I used to sell cars for Ford in the early 90s).
My D3 S&D moment came on Friday evening while driving up to the house during a power cut. It was blacker than than the back of a miner's balls when I noticed a dim glow illuminating the area around the cupholders and the transmission shift. A moment or two of waving my hand around and I found there is a tiny LED set on the forward edged of the rearview mirror housing, hidden from view, specifically set up to illuminate this part of the centre console so you can accurately place your cup or locate your wallet/keys etc without having to turn on your interior lights and lose any night vision you may have. For reasons I can't fathom this caused me to grin like an idiot, to think that LR gave this so much thought.
So a round of applause to the person responsible for including this feature and a question to you all: What' D3 S&D features have made you smile? Remember, they must be small things in the scheme of the overall vehicle, not major features like Terrain Response or HDC.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

not wishing to p@*s on your bonfire so to speak No Dosh but you'd struggle to find a car without 'ambient' lighting on the market nowadays. Even got it on a Focus Zetec hire car outside. But hey, as long as you like it!!

I like the shock and awe features to......like even if I've got the voice guidence off and a roadblock or busy traffic appears, the TMC wakes up the nav lady and tells me!
again, a wee thing but neat anyway is the way that when you fold the seats into van mode, the gap between the 2nd and 3rd rows gets filled by the roller blind cover...even specific mounting points for it....neat indeed
perhaps I should get out more 2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

Oliver, my bonfire remains intact. I'm aware many cars have it these days (some more subtle than others), but hadn't realised the d3 had until 4 weeks into ownership. Not something you would groan about if it weren't there, but a pleasant surprise when you first spot it.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've only just found out (after 15 months), that the handbrake comes on automatically when you take the ignition key out (manual box, not auto)
this was found out by my wife, who you can guess, never puts the handbrake on! i do love her, honest.

There is a hook on each of the rear 3/4 trims, is this what you mean?

I wouldn't describe these as curry hooks. A curry hook has to be in the front, preferably on the passenger side, like the D2, that was a curry hook. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
