Undocumented dash symbol??
Took the car up to Stockton on the weekend. Great day except I don't think the wifle will be back (sick of closing her eyes going down the back of dunes!). Kids loved it.
Did most of my driving in low range, dsc off, third gear or above (manual select). Sand mode on of course. Not really any problems however on occasion, I would see a symbol in the LED screen of two wheels, axle and diff. Sometimes the wheels would be straight, sometimes they would be turned. No audible warning and no other indication of anything.
I can't find reference to these symbols in the manual.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or identify?
Many thanks,08' TDV 6 SE

Shows you where your wheels are pointing. I think it is triggered by the diff locking up.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I'm not sure that it is related to the diff locking up. The picture of the front wheels appears when the steering is at a certain angle to let you know they are not straight ahead. When they point straight ahead the picture disappears. It only appears in lowrange by the way.
To see this, put your D3 into lowrange and select Mud/Ruts while the engine is running turn the steering wheel, you will see the picture appear with the front wheels pointing in the direction your turned the steering then turn the steering back and the picture disappears after the wheels are straight ahead.

I think you should turn off DSC if using low, mud&ruts (at least thats what I was told) otherwise it assumes you are skidding; I think this is when it puts up the little wheels icon2007 TDV6 XS Silver

put it in low range and select any special programme, cant remember if you need to select off road height or not. You do not need to have dsc off or even be moving for this to appear. But it does only appear for a short while after moving the steering wheel. And I think its a feature only on later models, my MY07 have it for sure and it is in the manual if you look hard enough.

Yep - it's this one:
Nothing to do with any of the diffs.
As Caver and PCH said, this shows you the direction that the wheels are pointing (the "diff" icon is actually a steering wheel).
It it shown in all off-road TR modes when in low-range and when the wheels are not pointing straight ahead. When they return to straight-ahead again, it dissappears after a few seconds.
I think it's on all models irrespective of MY. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

All, thanks for the replies. and yes, PaulP has kindly put a picture of exactly the symbol I am referring to.
I did see it a few times with the wheels straight ahead though and it did not seem to appear in conjunction with any specific action on my part ie. when I turned the wheel, on acceleration etc....
I'll have another look in the manual....08' TDV 6 SE

What Si said
Its there as a driving aid.
The power steering is very good at slow speeds resulting in poor steering feedback. Novice drivers quite often drive in ruts with the steering wheel a full turn out. This symbol aids the driver in pointing the wheels in the correct direction. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Looks like the dash on my old Alfa Romeo
Wheels falling off? Check
Range totally at odds with remaining fuel? Check
Speed slightly in excess of that which may be appropriate for the road? Check
Revs inconsistent with roadspeed? Check
Ododmeter suggesting someones "been tinkering"? Check
All it's missing is the near constant "NSF bulb out" and it's the full set.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
