Wavering and losing faith |
|
I have been a Discovery owner since the first one was released, started out with second hand a now five later I had 2 new disco 3. The problems is I am wavering on buying another Landrover. the one previous to the present , tried to kill me by bursting into flames whilst I was driving along and was back and forwards to the dealers for fault after fault, mostly suspension and fuel.
The replacement car is now just over three years old and has had so much work done on it for bearings ,brakes , suspension, turbo, whilst I do live on a island and it is salty, I honestly did not expect to pay thousands of pounds over and above the extended warranty, I paid for.
Bit of a rant really as I would love to stick with Landrover , but I really am getting jaded with it and the wife is of the same mind, not another even though she loves them as well.
Am I really going to have to go to a Land cruiser to get what I expect from a Landrover , any hope is the D4 that much better seems to lots of faults on D4 section.

Stay faithfull to the brand you know you want to deep down, the only thing Landcruises are good for are the UN. Displaced Yorkshireman.

My D4 has been the most reliable of all my recent cars (we have three cars and change each every 2-3 years and are not brand loyal). We had two Audis and both were unreliable. One had a fault they could not fix. The other was back to the dealer over 15 times over 2 years. I loved it from new but ended up hating it. A BMW that kept getting engine faults without leaving fault reasons and restricting power to 15mph. Left you scared to drive it any long distance.
Coming up to two years and no faults. Normally at this time I get bored and look for a new car to replace it. Not with the D4. Its still current and its reliable.
I dont see lots of faults in the D4 section. Like is normal with any website, people post their problems. When you consider the volume of D4s being produced, the faults are actually minimal. We largely have the D3 to thank for that as it was effectively the test bed for the D4 and the D4 is now a mature product with mostly tried and tested parts.

My D3 is the only car I have ever owned that I will replace with the same (OK maybe a D4!)
Most reliable car I've owned, and the only one I've ever been interested in looking after and fixing & repairing myself - overall if you buy a set of spanners they are no worse than any other brand to maintain - the bug bear is the labour rates at the stealers IMHO!

I think all brands have issues, I know the land cruisers have as many issues as the d3 it's just your on the d3 forum. I wouldn't touch a land cruiser, 2 of my friends have had the 4.2 amazon and both have been problematic from new.. Have had land rovers for 15 years and left the brand several times in favour of the supposed more reliable opposition, always come back to land rover, normally after a few months. There's nothing as good or as unpredictable. D3 V8 SE AUTO

The new LC200 V8 engine is failing. Chews oil as well. Toyota had a warehouse full of new motors to swap.
Even old Tojo fans are dispointed in the new ones, not what they were. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
