Webasto Heater !!

Hi All,
I have disco 3 2006, the webasto heater kicks in this time of year but it stinks!!. Do I need it and can I turn it off or pull a fuse so it doesn't work. I just wonder if it uses a lot of fuel for very little gain.
The engine seems to hunt a little when it operates, and sends the radio a bit doolally.
We used to live on a boat that also had a webasto (looks the same) got rid of in the end as it used up a lot of fuel.
Cheers

Hi Andy,

The D3 relies on the heater to bring the oil and engine temperature up on cold mornings. A lot of owners have a hard time starting the car when the fbh goes faulty so I’d say better to leave it in. Doesn’t use much fuel as it switches off once the engine is up to an acceptable temperature.

Is there any way of adjusting the mixture, so it doesn't smell??

The FBH also runs when the car is in motion & not maintaining a reasonable temperature.

I suggest that you run the FBH up to full temperature which will clean out any crud which has built up and also reduces any smoking and carbon build up.

If you don't have a remote start controller, it can be done with the Webasto diagnostics - search the forum for more details & buy the leads from the forum shop.

All-in-all you might be better off going to a decent indy to sort this out for you.

When the FBH starts to run it needs to run for at least 10 minutes otherwise it will soot up

Hi,
as already said the FBH is there to help the engine get up to and stay at its operating temp,
stopping it work may well Increase your fuel consumption as the engine does not get up to temp

a bit of a by product is it warms the cabin quicker as well (or even before you even get in Whistle )

Thumbs Up

Time for some bedtime reading.
https://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Fuel_Burning_Heater

If you do a search on here for FBH remote start there's plenty written on the subject.
eg. https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/build-fbh-c...1-285.html

Don't disconnect it, short journeys has probably caused it to clog up and as already said a long burn will help clear it out. The top link above has the details of the Webasto software you need, and the connections available via this site to run it independently whilst also providing full diagnostic capabilities.Thumbs Up

Hi,

best place to buy a lead is the forum shop (when available)
but you can cobble together a lead to then use the Webasto software to run the fbh

as G says you have some bedtime reading regarding many other options Whistle

you can not just use the key fob (more reading required) Thumbs Up

can not even remember how I wired this but its all searchable.

live, earth and yellow wire to fbh plug istr Confused
