Its not alone in this sector, still as a 2nd hand car at 3 years old you get one hell of a car.
They're no G4 though! Dont sell it!!!!!! I've always regretted selling my camel trophy and my tomb raider

I'd agree, superb. One that's a few months old, with a huge depreciation hit is a way better buy than the equivalent BM/Merc. IMHO

Not sure I'd think the same when they're a bit more common, but I like the look too. And it's base on the FL2 too isn't it.

Keep it and buy a Euro box.
It will make you appreciate how good it is every time you get in it.

Get a cheap small car for work. I've just done it with an 03 Punto.

The D3 stays at home during the week now, and the Punto is my work car. I do 2500 miles per month, and at 56mpg its paying for itself and some. I reckon its saving me at least £250 per month in fuel.

I would rather it was different, and could run the D3 all the time, but the price of fuel is nearly 100% more than when I first got the D3, the sums don't work anymore.

The cheap run about does not have to be boring

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CONVERTIBLE-1999-ORA...dZViewItem

I might be biased Wink but its based on a punto so just as reliable Rolling Eyes

I find mine a great counterpoint to the D3 - small, low, lightweight, 2 seat, lhd......

2 prius votes! I think there needs to be an inquisition!

Most have gone for the cheap eurobox option - so anyone got a recommendation? A lot of miles on the M25, so I would like to be a bit higher than the riff raff, needs to be auto and low emissions, and if I can get it leased below £350 (company car rate) then I can use the excess on the car allowance to fund the G4.

Any suggestions?

How much would you get back for the G4......? Take that as your new car buy price & do the sums from there. For me, personally, I couldn't do that kind of mileage in a Punto and would fight tooth & nail to keep the G4.
If you get a eurobox company car, then you're just paying tax for nothing in return (you won't own the eurobox).

Do you claim the extra tax on the difference between what your company give you for mileage (presume about 14p?) and the full taxman value of 40 or 45p? That soon adds up over that kind of mileage and could just sway you to keep what is a genuinely unique vehicle.

I've been working the math on my D3 due to the 110% increase since I got mine & given the value that I'd get for it now, it's just not worth changing.

BTW, simple as it sounds, but it's not so much the speed you go that affects the MPG, but the speed at which you get to the speed you want to travel.

Over the last week, I've allowed myself a little extra travel time & travelling at 70mph with my normal acceleration speed, gave me about 26.9mpg. Doing the same speed (& virtually the same journey) I've just managed 29.2 (Actual figures, not clock figures). The only difference is that on the latest run, my build up to 70 is gentle acceleration rather than normal acceleration.

But if at the end of the day, you just want a new car, then trade it in & get a Ssangyong thingy which is cheap, seems to be reliable and keeps you higher up than most.

Just my 2penneth anyway. Thumbs Up

Thanks Bodsy, fuel is not the issue as if I take option 1, then as the job offer includes full reimbursement of all fuel I don't have a problem (just need to work out the tax implications, and experts out there?). Really it's a case of do I want to knacker a unique vehicle, or am I just kidding myself that G4's will be worth a premium in a few years anyway?

Craig,

Just take the opt out option and buy an older luxury barge, 7 series, A8, Jag etc...you can get a hell of a lot of car for under 10 grand and if the company gives you a fuel card then happy days Thumbs Up
