Heated seat info required

Hi
can anybody save me much head scatching.

I am going to fit extra cabin heating to my hse. The length of time it takes the engine to warm up and provide heat to the cabin is plain wrong in a car costing this much. (FBH is fine) Swmbo is 8mins from work and is cold both ways. Only the heated seats providing heat.

I intend the extra heat soarce to be switched by relay. The relay is to be switched by the heated seats as this is the only time extra heat is required.
I am clear on the nature of my extra heat soarce but would appreciate details of wiring layout for the heated seat element - where is an easy place to take a drive supply for the relay - seats? heated seat module?

cheers

I've owned quite a long list of different cars (BMW, Merc, Volvo, Peugeot Embarassed , Porsche) and the D3 gets warmer much quicker than any of my previous cars.

I've got to agree with DG here.

Sorry, can't help with the tecnical question!

Why not add the pre heating function using the webasto clock, then you cabin will be warm in seconds when you get in.

A 8 minute trip isn't going do the engine much good either as it can hardly get warm or charge the battery. I doubt any car is warm within 8 minutes.

8 mins WTF Shocked

8 mins aint enough time to get the engine warm and provide enough heat. Just a suggestion but why not get you SWMBO to walk to work Wink save all the wasted diesel and engine wear and might do her some good Thumbs Up

Hi kevofcov,

As the guys above have said, it's unlikely you'll find any car that would heat up within a trip lasting only 8 minutes.

If you need to get the temperature up in time for setting off, rather than trying to run extra heating off the Heated Seats circuits, look at this thread: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15454.html

it's about adding the timer option to the FBH along with the remote control bits, then you can zap the remote when you get up and within 30-40 minutes the car is up to full temperature and that includes the heaters blowing warm/hot air.

Works a treat on mine.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I can only speak as I find and have driven her to work in -1. It is not as good as our last car, a Galaxy petrol. The Galaxy didn't have leather so this may be an factor. The blown air does start to warm as I leave her work place but is to late.
Without the heated seats there would be no heating of the interior. I have asked to measure the temperature of her rear as she she exits the car but she said no.
The quicker I can get her hot the better......

Kev, I think the FBH remote operation modification is for you Thumbs Up

1. Its been done.
2. Its proven to work
3. When you make her a cup of tea in the morning, you can press a button that will really warm her up! Its exactly what you want 8)

Even if you don't fancy tackling the job yourself, I am sure there are plenty of people here who would do the work in exchange for beer tokens.

I had a problem a few months ago with the heater not working properly - dealer did a software download to fix the problem and they also did TSB LA412-003 (heat shield around the cabin temperature sensor).

Since the software upgrade and the TSB being done the heating has been fine.

Gareth
just read the FBH mod - a brilliant post.

My idea is a less effort and just heats the cab.
If it works i'll post it once properly tested.
It takes alot to impress Doris but I will try.

Are wire layout diagrams available for the D3, this won't be the last time I will appreciate a layout i'm sure.

Just buy her a decent coat and a pair of nice leather gloves... a hat too maybe Wink

By the time I'm out of town (all of two miles) the air is starting to come in warm from the vents and the heated seat is plenty hot enough on my backside and back.

Again, agree with the others. D3 warms up faster in cold weather than any previous vehicle I've owned.

Cabin Heater

My journey to work in Central London is 20 miles from home and takes at least an hour an a half. It's usually heavy traffic for most of the journey apart from about 6 miles on the A13 if I'm lucky. My FBH isn't working at the moment (booked in to main stealer tomorrow) but even on recent mornings when it's been 5C or more, it does seem to take a long time before I get any real warmth out of the heater even with the climate control turned up to maximum (even then I wouldn't describe the output as hot). I've even fiddled around with trying the economy and recirculation buttons to improve things.

My Discovery 300tdi on the other hand has a brilliant heater and I rarely run it with the blower on more than the 1st of 4 settings. When I ran my MG ZT, I would be hot in shirt sleeves with the window open with the climate control set to 20C

I've read elsewhere on other posts of complaints about the efficiency of the D3 heating / climate control system and yet others indicate (as above) that the D3 has the best system of all the motors they've ever owned. I'm therefore a bit confused and wonder if what I'm experiencing is something I should raise with my local stealer? Confused
